No one tells you when you are young that you are going to grow up one day to be "the rock." No one prepares you for always having to be the strong one. The one who is always there for those around them. The one who protects those around them. The one who has to assure everyone that everything will always be okay. I know when I was young no one told me that would be the role that I would have to take on. Yet it is, and that is okay.
When tragedy strikes or those around you are crumbling; you have to be strong. When you are the only one capable of forming sentences without tears and falling to your feet; you have to keep going. You were born into a role that you did not ask for, and I understand. Sometimes being the only one who cannot crumble sucks; you feel as if you cannot show emotion or be sad or angry. You feel as if everyone just expects such from you, like nothing affects you in any way. You cannot tell anyone that you might be crashing too.
All of that is just a misconception; for you are human as well.
Being the rock does not mean that you cannot have emotion. Being the strong one does not mean you are not allowed to crumble. You are. You just have to get back up and keep going. Not just for everyone else, but for yourself too. You should be proud of the fact that you can keep going no matter what, because that just shows that you are a powerhouse. You are a force to be reckoned with because when something awful happens, and everyone is falling; you are the one standing. You are the one thinking ahead and telling everyone that everything will always work out in the end.
Be proud of your role. Be proud of the fact that those around you saw your potential and decided, "That's the one". It shows how trustworthy and magnificent you really are. It shows your strength, and your ability to never stop. It shows your patience. Being the rock makes people see your capability of unconditional love for those around you. It shows how incredible you are.
So, never hate your role. When something goes wrong, and the world is falling, and you are forced to once again be the rock; remember that it's not about solely being there for everyone else. It's not forcing you to not show any emotion. It's telling you that everyone needs you because you are always the one who stands tall in the end.
You are the rock, and you have the best damn role anyone could ever get.
