The Last Month Of Summer Bucket List

There's still a little life left in summer.

For a majority of college students, the first day of classes isn't just a far-away date on the calendar anymore; it's less than a month (!!!!) away. In roughly three to four weeks, we will once again be thrown into a world full of syllabi, lectures, and ordering textbooks. But before you can start planning your first day of class outfit, there's still a little life left in summer. I propose to you, the Last Month of Summer Bucket List, a few little items to check off before you head back to school.

1. Clean your room.

Starting off with a really fun one, right? Maybe not, but in all seriousness, this should definitely be tackled before classes start again. There's nothing better than returning to your house and remembering that you left your room perfectly in order. This one might be a bit tedious, so save it for a rainy day, and put on your favorite playlist while you get your room in better shape.

2. Go to the beach!

It's summer, c'mon! If you haven't been already, it's definitely time to head to the shore, wherever that may be for you. If you have already spent many days under the sun, explore a different beach before the summer's over.

3. Do something you wouldn't get the chance to do during the school year.

Whether it's visiting a relative that lives far away or going to a concert, take the opportunity while it is at your disposal.

4. Pick up a couple more hours at work.

Another one that's not so exciting while you have to do it, but your future self will thank you for when you have a little extra money to spend.

5. Get together with your friends from home before you have to go separate ways again.

You don't want to miss the chance to say goodbye for the semester to your best friends from high school.

6. Eat A LOT of ice cream.

Try a new ice cream place every week with your best friend at home. Embrace the season!

7. Watch that Netflix series you've been wanting to start.

You deserve it, after all! When classes are in full swing again, you're less likely to have the time, so might as well take advantage of it now.

8. Spend some time with your family.

You won't see them on the daily pretty soon, so embrace the time you have with them this summer and catch up.

9. Do something adventurous.

Whether that be going on a hike or taking a road trip to visit one of your college friends in another state or going to a music festival, break the daily routine and escape.

10. Prepare yourself for the upcoming school year.

Tie up any loose ends, organize the items that need to go to school with you, and order your textbooks. Fall semester will begin soon enough!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
