This is it. The last year of high school. We haven't been friends since our birth, and we all didn't even go to the same elementary school. Yet somehow these four amazing girls drifted into my life during the last two years of my high school career. They are all beautiful and unique in their own way. They can make me laugh to the point of tears, I can always count on them to tell me the truth and they have been there for me when boys haven't. We are not a perfect group, but we have something special that keeps us together and I know we will not be torn apart. The term “friends forever” is cliche and completely overused, but I cannot think of anything else to describe what we are. May our group chat live on forever. Even with how sad I will be to leave them, I cannot wait for them to take the world by storm in college next fall.
As for right now, this is our last year to be young and carefree high schoolers. Our biggest worry is what we are going to wear the last first day of school. Next year we will be paying rent and going to freshman college orientation. The word "last" shakes me to the core when I hear it. I cannot wrap head around the fact I am old enough to be a senior. Time is short. When you are with your friends, you never really take the chance to cherish the long car rides, because you think you have a million more, but our time is almost up. This is our last chance to dress up on our last first day of school and take the mandatory pictures. Our last chance to cheer at the sporting events that we went to, just so that we could participate in spirit week. Our last chance to eat lunch together everyday, laughing and chatting about the drama of that day. Our last chance to ride around our small town on Friday night blasting the music way too loud and driving too fast. Our last chance to be who we are right now, because we will never be the same people again. We will never get these years of our life back. This year is going to be our last. We need to make it count, we need to cherish everything that we take for granted. Next year we will be in college and that means no more impromptu Sonic Drive-In or local snow cone runs. We won't have our squad sleepovers, watching movies and talking until we fall asleep and all that's left after is the sound of the television. I don't know what I will do without these girls because they are what keep me sane, when we are together all the stress of school and life melts away. It's just us blasting the radio because right now that can solve most of the problems we have.
Next fall I will be leaving the best girls I have ever known, and I want to enjoy every last moment I can with them. Before we toss our caps in the air, let's spend this year tossing our heads back in laughter. I just hope next year when we are all settled into our dorms, a squad picture is on everyone's wall to remind them of the magic that we create when we are together. Love you four amazing girls with all my heart and soul.
