The Ladies' Guide: Treating Yourself On Valentine's Day

You can't always spend the day with someone, so treat yourself.

Whether you’re taken or not, you’re not always going to be able to spend this day with a partner. While everyone else is out on a date, use this time wisely and treat yourself. If you’re single, the holidays don’t have to be scary. If you’re taken and can’t see your person, they don’t have to be sad. Be your own date and enjoy times like this! Here’s some of my favorite ways to treat myself, whether it’s on a holiday or just much needed:

1. Pizza

I firmly believe that pizza will solve all the world’s problems. OK, that’s not true. But it solves most of mine.

2. Cookie dough

I normally binge eat cookie dough when I’m stressed or sad, but it’s just another form of treating myself. Just don’t eat the whole tub like I do, have some self-control.

3. Flowers

Say they’re for your mom if you have to. Nothing is better than opening your front door and getting hit by the aroma of actual flowers, plus it automatically makes you fancy.

4. Shopping

The ultimate way to treat yourself, just don’t get into too much credit card debt.

5. New makeup

Whether you actually go out and purchase new makeup or just try a new look is up to you, but playing with makeup can be so much fun.

6. Spa day

The perfect part is that you can totally have a spa day in the comfort of your own home. Spend money if you’d like, but I’ll be drinking wine out of a coffee mug in my bathtub with my TJ Maxx candle lit and a face-mask on.

7. Take a nap

Sorry shopping, I take it back. THIS is the ultimate way to treat yourself! If you’re busy like I am, you never have time to nap anymore. Make time on special occasions to brush up on your napping skills.

8. Be productive

Some enjoy the opposite of a relaxing, lazy day. Take this time to get ahead of things, to clean your house, and get to things you’ve been putting off. When it’s done, you’ll feel so much better.

9. Exercise

I like to start my day off with exercise as often as possible. Not only does it boost my mood, it makes me feel like I have my life together. LOL.

10. Dog walk

This could be a form of relaxation or exercise, or both. There's nothing better than spending time with your pup and finally getting around to taking them on a much needed walk.

11. Cook

Aside from the pizza and cookie dough, make an actual meal! Spend time on it and make it just how you like it. Don’t cook for anyone but you, but share it with your roommates if you'd like. Throw in the items that others pick out and enjoy every last bite.

12. Enjoy the moment

One day, nothing will be the same. Enjoy the people that are close to you and find the light in current situations. Appreciate where you are and make goals for where you want to be.

Don’t let being alone on this day bring you down! Some of us in relationships are alone too. Be content with being by yourself sometimes! One day, you'll probably be married with a house full of kids and can't even use the bathroom without an audience. Enjoy!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
