A Last Name Is One's Identity And An Extension Of Who They Really Are

One's last name is just as much part of their identity as their first name.

What is in a last name? Something women change after marriage? Something you call you elders by, or course by adding Ms. or Mister.? Or, something you use to address doctors? No, it is one's identity after their first name. It is the second or third part of their name that is them. So, I figured, why not try to discover you I am through my last name!

My last name is Kohli, which too comes from an Indian origin, but it also has the twist of a Sikh origin and a Swiss-German origin. My last name is short and easy. However, as unique as my first name is, my last name is actually quite common. Nevertheless, it ends my name in a soft manner, which leaves everyone in mystery.

My last name is one where the "K" stands for knowledgeable. As stated before, I try to be keen in order to solve or prevent problems. And in order to do this, I need to be smart enough to come up with viable solutions.

My last name is one where the "O" stands for optimistic. Even in harsh situations, I make sure to have a positive attitude because that is what makes people joyful. In addition, by having an encouraging approach it certifies that everyone is having a virtuous and peaceful time.

My last name is one where the "H" stands for honesty. Even when I do not want to tell someone something that could hurt him or her deeply, I have to be true to him or her and to myself by telling him or her the truth. In the end, as everyone has heard, honesty is always the best policy, but as I say, lying is never the solution.

My last name is one where the "L" stands for lionhearted. If I am scared, I must still take the risk because if the fear is not faced then the fear never goes away, but instead, it grows. I am also determined because when something needs to get done, I will be up all night in order to finish it with perfection.

My last name is one where the "I" stands for integrity. I live by many morals that help shape who I am even more. These morals include the morals of honesty and happiness. I believe that in order to live life to the fullest one must have morals to live by because if they do not then they may never know the true meaning of life.

My name is one where individually the names are not hard to find, but when put together to form Oneeka Kohli, it makes me the only one. Moreover, my name would not be this different if it was not for my parents, who I must say have pretty common names. With their common names, they wanted something rare in their lives, and with that thought in their mind, they found the most exceptional name they could and gave it to me. Therefore, I guess, my unique name is only because of them, and I am glad that they gave it to me because it suits me perfectly.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
