1. Their faces light up when they see you.
Little kids always get so excited to see people. They make friends easily, and they enjoy making new ones. Little kids are almost like puppies when they run up to greet you, and it’s a great feeling to be welcomed like that.
2. They love to laugh and make you laugh, too.
Kindergarteners love to tell jokes, and, more often than not, they make no sense. But that doesn’t matter to them, they still crack up laughing. Laughter is contagious, especially from a room full of little kids. They make you laugh, which instantly makes you feel better, and you can’t change that.
3. They understand the importance of nap time.
As a college student, I’ve learned to value nap time with an entirely new appreciation. When I was in kindergarten, I was the trouble-making kid who almost never napped during nap time. I talked to my friends, or even kids that weren’t my friends. I stomped my feet or banged them on the wall. Looking back at it, I wish I could tell my five-year-old self to nap every single day and to appreciate each and every one of those naps because one day I won’t have a set aside time to nap every day.
4. And snack time.
As you get older, there’s no longer a time allotted for you to eat snacks, but in kindergarten that’s just what they have. They have time set aside just to eat snacks because they get hungry, so they eat. Any person who understands the importance of snack time is a friend of mine.
5. They get easily distracted which means they don't hold any grudges and move on quickly.
Children tend to have shorter attention spans, which allows them to move from one mindset to the next very quickly. They won’t stay angry, and they are quick to forgive you for something that happened, as long as you give them something else to focus on.
6. They get excited about the little things.
So many times I’ve been on the receiving end of a child coming up to me to show me something cool that they found. Only to find out when they open their hand that it’s a rock. A normal rock you can find anywhere outside, but, to a little kid, that rock is just about the coolest thing ever. I miss the days when I was kid and I would get easily excited about things as simple as a rock I found outside.
Kindergarteners are full of energy and excitement and they can't help but to rub some of that off on you too, making them excellent friends.
