Kentucky fans will hate Duke for as long as college basketball is around. There are multiple reasons why Duke is one of Kentuckys biggest rivals and Kentucky fans are nowhere close of forgetting any of the reasons that makes the cats fans hate the devils.
One of the contributing factors to why Kentucky fans hate Duke has to due with the fact that Duke has won the last seven of eight games played between them and the Kentucky Wildcats. Many Kentucky fans hate the the devils because of the air of "privilege" that surrounds the program. Duke being a private institution usually associates it having money. The Media and NCAA can't seem to get enough of Duke either which is enough to get under any Kentucky fan's skin.
"The shot." This is the main reason why every Kentucky fan will always hate Duke. Even if you were born after "the shot," odds are if you are a Kentucky fan you own an, "I still hate Laettner" T-shirt. Kentucky fans will never forget when Christian Laettner hit the buzz-beater shot with 2.1 seconds on the clock to beat the Wildcats 103-104. ESPN has deemed the game "the shot" that happened in the best college basketball game that has ever been played, and it is number 17 on the list of the top 100 sports moments in the last 25 years. Although, Kentucky fans, without a doubt, do not consider this one of the best moments in sports but, rather, one of the most heartbreaking. Laettner and "the shot" will forever fuel hate of Duke for Kentucky fans.
