Every sound magnifies.
I'm trying to think, but I can't hear my thoughts.
What are they saying?
I know I should be focusing,
But so much is happening; What is happening?
What are they saying?
Okay, I need to focus.
Don't forget the comma; That sounds good.
But what are they saying?
Did she really do that?
This is too good, I need to know more.
Stop listening!
But it's interesting.
I know I need to work, but I'm getting distracted.
Stop listening!
What was my point here?
I need to finish this paragraph - what happened?
But you need to stop listening!
Okay, I'll put in headphones.
Where's my phone? Maybe I can check Twitter too...
Put it up.
But what if Mom texted?
Something important might be happening.
Put it up.
Is that a Snapchat?
It's from him; I have to answer him.
You have to put it up!
Work never gets done when you let yourself get pulled away from the task at hand. This poem is an illustration of a scenario that goes through my head quite a lot. It's often easy to get distracted, especially when you're supposed to be focusing extra hard. The best thing to do to keep from getting distracted when you're trying to get something done is to put yourself in a quiet area where there is nobody around to get you off task. Imagine somewhere serene, like a mountaintop or the beach - your happy place. Go there, and refresh your mind to get ready to knock out whatever you're working on. Put your phone away, and turn it on silent, so you won't be tempted to look at it. Stay completely and totally focused; That is how you will succeed.
