Late night Thursday, July 14th, Katy Perry went Beyonce on all of us. Now she didn’t physically turn into Beyonce, but she followed in her footsteps. Perry secretly dropped her new song, “Rise,” on iTunes and Apple Music at 11p.m. Thursday night.

Perry released “Rise” on the heels of The Princess of Pop, Britney Spears, literally an hour after, who dropped her latest single “Make Me.”

“Rise” is Katy’s first song in two years. Perry’s last single was 2014’s “This is How We Do” off of her 2013 album, Prism.

It has been a bit since new Katy Perry music, but last night all of the KatyCats rejoiced. Yes, “Rise” is a new song from Katy and many fans are expecting a new album, but actually this new anthem is the theme song for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. That is perfectly fine. We still get to hear new music from her and enjoy the Olympics all in one!

Don’t give up hope yet, KatyCats! Perry released a video on Friday morning which premiered the video for the Olympics and her new anthem, but she also mentioned she could not be there in person because she has been busy IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON HER NEXT ALBUM!

So I know I am holding out hope for a 2017 tour. Start saving up now everyone!

Watch below if you want to know what was Katy’s inspiration for writing “Rise.”

With all of the violence, hate, and horrible events going on in the world, “Rise” allows us to know that everything will be ok and we can rise above the bad. It will also inspire the Olympic athletes to rise up for the gold!

Perry released a statement saying “This is a song that has been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear - in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness,to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics as chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games."

This may be Perry’s best and most empowering song to date! Let us all Rise up and listen to the new song and not live in fear!

Tune into the Olympics starting August 5 and running through the 21st to watch the athletes Rise to new levels and Rise for the gold!

So until Perry’s fourth studio album is released, we can sit back and enjoy “Rise,” and all of her other smash hits!

Here is the hit new song! This is just a bit of what we can expect for album number 4!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
