Karma Is More Than Just A B****

Out of all the things high school taught me, karma was the best lesson of them all.

Karma Is More Than Just A B****

Everyone has gone through their teenage years and at some point has had to face a struggle. Back stabbing friends, cheating girlfriends and boyfriends - you name it, someone endured it. In high school, everything is blown up. You are living in a confined little place, and the smallest of struggles will seem like the absolute end of the world.

Looking back, it seems so foolish thinking that losing a friend was enough to want to transfer or drop out and never go to school again. Giving up your entire future because of a rumor, a bad friend or a bad situation is silly.

There is one thing I wish I had known back then that I do now, and it is something so simple, but a concept that never crossed my mind at that age. People will sit there and tell you they hate drama, but continue to spread gossip. People will swear up and down that they are so mature, but are fighting with someone over social media.

There is only one person in this world you can control, and that's yourself. Don't waste your time trying to adjust any one else's actions, just focus on the way you react to those actions. When it comes to maturity, just because you are older does not mean you are more mature. Maturity happens when you realize how many things in life don't require your comment, your opinion or even your attention. It's learning to prioritize and focus on yourself while balancing the fine line of not being selfish.

No one is ever as mature as they think they are, and no matter how old you are, you will always look back and think, "Why did I make such a big deal out of that; what was I even mad about?" High school is hard, like it or not. Big school or small, there is drama that will seem detrimental. I promise you, there is a world outside of high school that is so big and endless and will make all these bumps in the road seem like nothing.

As hard as it is, sometimes you need to just let it go. Let it go, give it to whatever higher power you believe in and let them take care of it. Karma is a wonderful thing, and the day you learn that there is a good side to that karma is the day you can really make a change in yourself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
