I spent the last 18 years of my life living Kansas City , so trust me when I say that you need to take a trip and go there.
For starters, Kansas City is so cool that it can't even fit it in just one state. With half of it in Missouri and half of it in Kansas, it's double the amount of cool of any other city.
I mean it's a pretty big city with 467,007, in 2013 according to Google, and you know what they say about big cities. Everyone is mean, it's loud, and it's dirty, but, that is not the case with Kansas City. I could walk downtown or go shopping on the Plaza and every single person I pass will smile or say hi and sometimes even ask how my day is going. You get the small town friendliness in a big town environment.
I have been to New York, and I have been to DC, and I have been to Atlanta, and they were all big, beautiful towns that I would love to go back to. But, something I noticed while visiting those places is that everyone is so busy to get where they need to be they never take the time to enjoy the beautiful city around them. Plus, with the constant honking and screaming at each other to get out of the way it kind of takes away the home-y feeling I get in Kansas City.
Oh man, the sights you will see in Kansas City, from the tall buildings to the barbecue joints on every corner (speaking of which, we do in fact have the best barbecue ever), the glorious fountains and the amazing art pieces just spend throughout the city. Including, the world's largest shuttlecocks stuck in the ground outside the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the Instagram-famous "Kansas City I'm so in love" wall mural which I have yet to take a picture in front of (added to my to-do list), all the beautiful art pieces in all the beautiful galleries downtown on First Fridays, and so much more. Kansas City is such a beautiful, artistic town, so beautiful in fact it makes me a little insecure because I couldn't draw a decent looking stick figure to save my life.
Can we just stop for a moment and talk about sports? I, personally, don't know a whole lot about sports other than that they can't hear my dad through the television set when he is screaming at them. But, I do know that even when the Royals or the Chiefs aren't on their A-game, they still have an amazing support system backing them up. And when they do play well, and the Royals make it to the World Series and crush it and come home with a giant trophy worth more than my college tuition for one year, we go all out. When I say all out, I don't mean we throw a little party to celebrate, I mean we get a crowd of an estimated 800,000 people in a city of only 467,007, that's almost double the population of this town, how absolutely insane is that?
I have a lot of hometown pride, so I am probably very biased on this subject but, I don't care because I love Kansas City and I want everyone to know how freaking fantastic it is. I could talk about my love for Kansas City forever but then I would be writing a novel instead of an article and my hands would get very tired. I am at college now but I can not wait to go back in a couple weeks and see the place I have called home for the past 18 years of my life. I love Kansas City and I hope you take a little detour on your next road trip to go see my home and I hope you love it just as much as I do.
