The Major League Baseball season has come to a close and the Kansas City Royals are your 2015 World Champions. The Royals defeated the New York Mets in five games to win their first World Series since 1985.
The Royals were a favorite from Spring Training, having been just 90 feet from winning the year prior. All season they had to deal with the missed opportunity of having lost to the San Francisco Giants. They took that feeling and ran with it, leading the American League Central from the very start and eventually battling their way through the Astros and Blue Jays.
On the other hand, the Mets were expected to go nowhere. Even their die-hard fans thought that a .500 season was an optimistic expectation. The team had extreme ups and downs and was ultimately led by their outstanding young arms and trade deadline acquisitions. They battled with the Dodgers and steamrolled the Cubs, leaving everyone optimistic for the World Series.
In the end, it was clear that the better team won. The Royals were more experienced and an overall more talented team. The Mets had a lead in every game of this series yet were only able to win one. The Royals is a team that keeps on fighting, a team that never takes an at bat off. They are baseball's best late game team, baseball's best comeback team and overall baseball's best team.
The Mets are none of those things. A team that could not get out of its own way, making error after error after error. They are a mix of young players and guys who have never been on winning teams before. Simply, they are a team that did not know how to win.
It's not all bad for the Mets though. They don't have to look far to find a World Series loser having success a year later. This was a season to remember and this heartbreaking defeat will only make them a better team in the future. Every one one of these players will carry this crushing feeling with them next season, just as the Royals did this season. Hopefully, the outcome can be the same for them. Also, to help you cheer up I present to you one final gif of Bartolo Colon.
As for the Royals, they have a mix of talented young players and quality veteran players. There is no reason this team should not be the favorite to win next year and several years to come. Congratulations to the Royals and, for Mets, as always, there is always next year.
