When we were younger, we never questioned anything because we assumed that we were going to be protected no matter what happened inside or outside of our country. Policemen were here to protect us and make us feel safe. We thought that were in good hands.
Lately, as most of you know, our country hasn't been living up to "the greatest country in the world" nickname. With the police brutality within the past year, it seems like it's just the complete opposite.
Now, before anyone gets offended, I will say that I am NOT against good policemen and women. I believe that there are amazing men and women who serve our communities with full intentions of doing what is right. However, I do believe that there are people that think they are above the law because they are able to have weapons on them 24/7. I believe that there are some people who do not have self control and that are very impulsive when it comes to using a weapon in a situation.
If I have already offended anyone in some way, I apologize, but this is not the purpose of this article.
I want to make it clear that I, and many others, are confused and heartbroken over the past incidents that have occurred with murdering innocent people. The two black men killed in Minnesota and Louisiana were in fact murdered. Castile was driving with his girlfriend and her young daughter when they were stopped by police. There was absolutely zero resistance and he was fatally shot. Sterling was also fatally shot while being arrested by two police officers. In the video, you see absolutely zero resistance or fighting. In Dallas during a protest against police brutality, 4 policemen and 1 policewoman were shot and killed while they were present at the protest as usual protocol. About 7 others were injured and 2 civilians were shot during this catastrophe.
It is being said that the policemen and women were being targeted to "get back at" them for the murders of Castile and Sterling.
My questions: How in the world does it make sense to take away innocent lives that had nothing to do with the other shootings? Why would someone think that it is logical and okay to kill people with families and spouses? Does that really bring justice?
It absolutely does not bring justice and this is why I do not feel safe. Some people are posting on Twitter and Instagram (excuse the language) "#fuckthepolice" in memory of the men who were killed by officers. I'm sorry, but those police officers that are you are referring to saved civilians from the reckless people shooting at the protest. Just because there is and has been a disgusting amount of police brutality toward black men does not mean that every other police officer is the same.
I've been noticing that there are videos circulating of "good" policemen and women. If you've seen them, you would know that an officer holds their phone and video tapes themselves explaining why they are not like the policemen who murdered Castile and Sterling. They are feeling the pain just as much as we are and they want it to stop just as much as we do.
What I want you to understand is that we, as citizens, need to come together. Instead of recognizing the hate, being that there is so much of it, let's recognize the love that we share and are capable of sharing. Spread love instead of hate, spread support instead of bashing, and bring positivity to all the negativity.
Please, please, please be safe.
Now start spreading love and go hug someone
