It's Okay To Be Wrong

Because we're not all as perfect as we'd like to be.

It's Okay To Be Wrong
hitherandthither

Let's face it, we all make mistakes. We're always so ready to point fingers at someone else rather than reluctantly turn them around to ourselves. You want to believe you live in a perfect world, never doing anything wrong because after all, you never had any intention of doing so. It’s so easy to get hurt in this life that we become consumed by our emotions. Everything we do is driven by how we feel. Something happens, and we react. Sometimes we overreact, and sometimes we owe an apology.

The thing is - it’s okay to be imperfect. It’s okay to overreact. It’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to wish you would’ve done something differently. It’s okay to admit you’re wrong. In fact, I believe that’s the first step to adulthood: realizing you’re not a perfect person and accepting that you’re a human composed of flaws just as everyone else is. Often times we fail to see our own reflection. We look in the mirror at least once a day but what do we really see? We see our outfits and if they match, our hair and decide if it needs to be tidied or not, we check for food in our teeth, and we decide we’re presentable enough for the day ahead of us. What we don’t see- what we need to see on a daily basis is our character. Yes, you look the part but are you acting the part as well? You need to do what I like to call, “self-check-ins." Ask yourself: how have I been feeling lately? Decide why you’ve been feeling that way and whether you need to change anything or not. Ask yourself: how have I been treating myself? Then follow up with: how have I been treating others? Decide if that person is who you want to be or if you’ve been a bit out of character. Ask yourself: is this my fault? It’s okay to say yes, and it’s also okay to say no. It’s not okay when you ignore the problem, and try to push all feelings aside. You’ll feel as if you’re carrying a heavy weight around, crushing your happiness. You’ll feel as if you’re drowning and can’t find the surface. You’ll feel as if you’re sinking deeper and deeper in quicksand just wishing you took a less treacherous route. The second you feel as if something is out of line, you need to do the scary thing and cross it. You need to take a step out of your comfort zone, out of your safety net, and take in the picture from a bigger perspective. You can’t get blindsided by your tunneling emotions. You need to remain focused and open-minded and flexible. You need to look down at your own hands and see if they’re dirty. Is this your mess to clean up? How are you going to put the pieces back together? Are you going to run or is it time to face the demons?

At the end of the day, it’s your life, and you’re the maker of decisions. You can choose to admit your wrongdoings or you can sit there and wonder why your life is taking the turn that it is. You can accept it and move on, or you can clear your conscience and make amends. Never forget you’re human too. After all, as a great physicist once said: to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
