When starting college my freshman year at Mississippi State University, I was majoring in engineering. For some reason, I thought I would be really good at it and also wanted to make some good money. But after my first semester, I realized that engineering was SO not for me (lol).

The semester afterward, I was a business major. I didn't really know what I wanted to do so I thought taking some business classes would be super helpful in some way while I tried to figure the rest of my life out. A little while into that semester I found this major called Social Work. I was not really familiar with social work (in fact, I honestly did not even know what it was) but a lot of the friends that I made throughout my first semester in college were almost all social work students. God moves in mysterious ways, let me tell you.

I finally went to see a social work advisor and figured out that all the things I wanted to do with my life, I could do through social work. While being in the social work program, I have really found what I love to do, helping others. I found friends that are literally the BEST and make me feel right at home.

The point of my story is to tell you that it is completely okay to come to school and not know for certain what you want to do with your life. It is also completely okay to change your major, as many times as it takes. I feel like there is this big pressure now that you have to have a major freshman year and you should totally not change it. However, I believe and have learned that you have to grow sometimes before you can have things all figured out.

You have to meet others along the way, grow individually and with your community, and find what you really love to do. Not everyone's timeline is the same. You have to figure out who you are and where you are going. Sometimes the answer isn't always easy to see but it could be right in front of you the whole time, and you just don't even know it.

I encourage you to stand out and find the things in life that make you happy. I'm so happy that I did.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
