When I first started at JSU, I was a Secondary Education major. Now, I'm close to beginning my junior year and I'm a Nursing major. Throughout my years here, I have changed my major many times.
I've become so discouraged with some of the classes that I talked myself out of getting that specific degree. I've heard a lot of hate and my family can't even keep up with what I'm doing.
To the freshman, it is okay to change your major. You won't know if you'll like working in that field if you do not take any of the classes. Yes, it'll push your graduation date back a bit, but it's fine if you don't graduate in 4 years.
So what if your friends make fun of you for changing your major. Who's to say that they'll be there for you when you're successful.
At the end of the day, it's going to be you working the job. Do whatever makes you happy. If you want to be a psychologist. Go for it! Don't let anybody discourage you. Shoot for the stars. Go for the gold. Don't let anybody block you from being what you want to be.
I've been through many different majors here. I've been through education, criminal justice, nursing, biology, and psychology. Now, I'm finally happy with my choice to major in nursing.
A word of advice, sit down and weigh out your options. Think about the benefits of the majors. A benefit of nursing would be helping people. If that's what you're passionate about, go for it! You determine your future.
If you're completely undecided, talk to an advisor or a student in the program. You could also take a semester off and focus on what you want to do. Take it from someone who has been so indecisive since freshman year. Honestly, I wish I would have gone in as undecided, but that doesn't matter anymore.
Be who you want to be. If you want to change your major, do it. Don't let anything stop you. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to talk to me. I'll be by your side whatever you choose.
