I'm 19 with tattoos. My tattoos turn heads and start conversations. Most of the time, the conversations start with, "You know you won't be able to get a job with tattoos" or my favorite, "What are you going to do when you get old?" My answer? "Well, I'll probably retire, spend time with my husband and love on my grandkids, why?" or "Maybe not if I were working for you, so it's a good thing I won't be."
If you're young and want tattoos, be prepared. Be prepared for people to disagree with your love for tattoos, be prepared for questions (some you may not want to hear), and be prepared for opinions. These days, people love to hand these out. You just have to decide whether or not you will allow it to hurt your feelings. Trust me, I've had things said about mine that really make me second guess getting any more.
Tattoos, for me, are body decorations. This is my temple, I just choose to decorate it. My tattoos symbolize people, thoughts, and beliefs that are important to me. My tattoos are my story. My tattoos show people who I am.
Society loves to pin point people with tattoos as uneducated, down low, and people that are going nowhere. Well, I'm proud to say, I have tattoos, I'm in college, I make good grades, and I have a full life ahead of me. Having tattoos does not make you a bad person, judging people with tattoos does.
My tattoos do not hinder me from being a successful human, my tattoos push me to be better. The word "Agape" on my arm reminds me of God's unfailing love, pushing me to be a better Christian. The phrase "You are my sunshine" is in my grandfather's handwriting to remind me every day to push to be the absolute best I can be for him and so on.If you're young with tattoos, do not let society tell you that you aren't good enough or won't be successful because of them. Let your tattoos tell your story. Let people ask questions. Be who you are, and if tattoos help define who you are, be the best person with tattoos you can be!
