4 Reasons Why It's Great To Be A Hawkeye
Sydney Roudabush

It's that time of year again, the best time of the year. Football season is back, more importantly, Hawkeye Football is back. The 2016-17 season is in full swing with Iowa 2-0 with a dominating win against Iowa State last weekend. Once again, it is the Hawkeye State for another year. Going to the game this past weekend you could feel the electricity in the air. There is something special and magical about Saturday game day at Kinnick stadium; so many loyal fans, tailgating, and the Iowa fight song playing on full blast. Here are some reasons why Hawkeye Football is so special and why every day is a great day to be a Hawkeye.

1. Being a part of the Hawkeye Family

There is nothing that quite compares to the Hawkeye family. Wearing that black and gold and cheering on the Hawkeyes with random strangers at Iowa games is one of my fondest memories of Saturday football. Even though you do not know the person personally, you are both there to cheer on your team so you automatically like each other. We have sat by the same family at Hawkeye games for probably about 8 years now, and we always look forward to football season to see each other, catch up on life, and cheer on our beloved hawks.

2. You can always wear that black and gold with pride

Hawkeye fans have so much pride in their team and are always sporting their black and gold. The Iowa Hawkeyes give us so much to be proud of and I am always excited to put on my Hawkeye hat.

3. The Pancheros Burrito Lift

If you haven't experienced the football tradition of the burrito lift, then you need to. A Hawkeye tradition at every home game that is unique to the University of Iowa. No wonder I love Pancheros so much. Pump it up.

4. Always looking forward to the weekend for another Hawkeye Game.

Whether it be a day or night game, everyone looks forward to game day at Kinnick Stadium. Experiencing the tailgating, the team coming in to back in black, and I-O-W-A chanting around the stadium; there is no other place like Kinnick Stadium. Hawkeye games are the highlights of my weekend.

There are so many things that make Iowa Hawkeye football so special and there is a reason why Hawk fans have so much pride in their school. Football season is a special time of the year to cheer on your team, spend time with your friends and family, and wear an excessive amount of black and gold. I have so many fond memories of Saturday games in Iowa City, and I continue to make more memories on game days. I will forever and always be a Hawkeye and will always be proud to be a Hawkeye as well.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
