The Chicago Cubs came into the 2016 MLB season with expectations through the roof. With one of if not the best roster in all of baseball, which includes multiple players who have the ability to put up MVP like numbers along with Cy Young caliber pitchers, the Cubs seemed to have all the pieces for a big season, and the whole team knew what was expected of them. They were the team that was being chosen the most, with 9-4 odds to win the World Series. Along with all of the expectations everyone had for them, the Cubs also had something to prove. In the 2015 playoffs, the Cubs made it all the way to the National League Championship Series only to get swept. The way last year ended for the Cubs lit a fire for the 2016 season. The team made the necessary offseason moves to improve the team even further and really solidify themselves as the team to beat. With how talented the cubs were built to be, fans cant help it much to believe that this really is the year. Over the years Chicago Cubs fans have grown accustomed to saying, "This is the year". Disappointing year after disappointing year cubs fans were always optimistic about a new season just to be let down. Players would come and go, coaches would come and go and the outcomes to seasons were always the same. It couldn't get any worse than the cubs, literally, they were the worse team in baseball. But things began to change, and they were changing fast. The cubs went from losing nearly 90 games to winning nearly 100 games in the matter of one season. The Cubs went from worst to first just like that. They had lots of very young and very talented players. One couldn't help but to get excited with what the Cubs had going for them. The Cubs winning games began becoming just as normal as it was for them losing games just a couple years ago. The team changed their ways and today have the best record in all of baseball. They have already won the division and its barely mid-September. The Cubs are on pace to win more than 100 games and have home-field advantage throughout the National league playoffs. They will also finish the season being in first place every day except for one day, all the way back in April. With all the excitement and winning the Cubs have produced, it is extremely easy for fans to truly start believing that this really is the year. October is only a couple weeks away, and Chicago is buzzing over the cubs. With the playoffs soon upon us, fans are getting ready for what they hope to be a memorable October. From this point on, Cubs fans everywhere, including myself, will be watching and hoping that this really the year. It's going to be a fun ride for the city of Chicago, and hopefully the Cubs can accomplish what every fan has waited a lifetime to see.
