Spongebob. Love him or hate him (most kids love him and most parents hate him), the character has permeated every aspect of our generations life. It was a show, the characters were made into toys, there were movies, video games and stuffed animals. And in our day and age where every slightly funny phrase can be watched over and over again and make it slightly even more funny, we will do just that. Maybe its the 'nearing twenty nostalgia' phase hitting me, or maybe its the fondness of spouting absolutely ridiculous phrases and hoping someone will catch on, but either way, Spongebob phrases have slowly and silently crept into my vernacular. And they're not going away any time soon. So without further adieu, here are some spongebob quotes that A) are really funny B) applicable to every day life and C) need to have a more wide spread use.
1. One of, if not the most iconic line in the entire nine seasons which spanned 194 episodes is when Patrick ask "Is Mayonnaise an instrument?"
What does this actually mean? Why does Patrick think mayonase is an instrument? Our answers only lie in a world of speculation, but one thing is certain: Its applicable to literally (used in the correct way, not in the 'omg Jenny, I literally died' way) every single interaction you have with another human being.
They ask you for advice? Throw it out there.
Someone ask you to pass the ketchup? Hit them with one of these.
You are asked to give your opinion:
The possibilities surrounding this phrase are endless, people.
2. Celebrities causing the de-sanctification of the ideals of marriage? Your co-worker split cleaning liquid all over the floor? Your BFF Jill put creamer in your coffee without your consent? The only two words for these atrocities:
Nothing brings more shame or regret to a persons actions than impersonating Spongebob at this moment. Soiled it. This speaks to me on a intrinsic level. You mess up and my internal dialogue immediately starts speaking this to me.
3. This is the true test that determines how to weed out the people you need to hang out with. If they don't like DoodleBob then you shouldn't like them. Extreme times call for extreme measures.
Long live the king. More so long live Doodle Bob. His language is incomprehensible, he may have a lazy eye, and his skin tone may slightly look like he's never seen the sun, but he, as a presence, is so moving. He will stir emotions that you never even thought a cartoon character capable of.
He has been known to scare small children, empower youth and mildly irritate adults. But he will be known to the masses by his distinguishable speech titled "NeHoy Mehoy Menoy." Almost like poetry, wouldn't you say? Anyone would swoon at a reciting of this for slam poetry night.
Spongebob has become a modern classic, much to the likes of To Kill a Mockingbird, or Friends. But with all art movements, some people choose not to participate, or can't fully grasp the concept. But for those people, I leave you with one piece of advice:
Have a great week, in which I hope you get to reminisce on the uplifting show that is Spongebob.
