The night before move in day, I was probably the most nervous I had ever been in probably my entire life. When ingesting the idea that in the next 24 hours I would be living on my own, without my parents or my sister next to me 24/7 was a thought that yes indeed triggered my excitement to indulge and dive into a realm of true freedom, but also made me digest the fact that that was just it...I wasn't going to have my mom cooking me her amazing Armenian food every night for dinner, or I wasn't going to be able to go over to my Yaya and Dede's house to have coffee whenever I wanted, or run into my sister's room when I had to vent to her about pretty much anything and everything. The reality basically hit me and I knew that this was the beginning of a journey that will take me towards discovering my true independence.
Before actually arriving to Iona, all incoming freshmen received an email, explaining that the move in was to be organized in a timely matter; in other words each floor had their own move in time. Since I live on the fourth floor, my move in time was 11:00 a.m. But, because my family and I of course were so excited to get on the road, we decided to get an early start and arrived...oh I don't know...three hours early. At first, I was getting nervous that we would be messing up the schedule of move in and I wouldn't be able to get my stuff in earlier than expected, however that wasn't the case at all. I got my ID and room key, and with the help of some upper classmen made it up all the way to my dorm. Long story short: I got the bed I wanted (thank God), and I realized the anxiety I was giving myself was so unnecessary because at the end of the day, God always has a plan and He knows when to follow through with that plan and who that plan is meant for.
So far, college has been really, really great; I mean it's only been two days but still. My roommates are absolutely awesome, I love my classes so far, and I know that I have a sturdy head on my shoulders with a mind that will lead me down a road that will eventually end at its rightfully proper destination.
Independence.
