So, most of my friends know that I am quite the superfan of Lindsey Stirling. If you don't know who that is, shame on you. No, but seriously, she's that dancing violinist girl you saw on AGT in 2010. Yes, the girl who's released 4 albums and been on 6 tours. She's the reason I play the violin and who's been my idol since I was 7. Okay, we got off topic here. Anyway, I created a fan account for her (I'm basic, I know) and I quickly got connected with a group of "Stirlingites" and we became close friends pretty quickly. We started a joined acc where we still (try) and post daily. Anyway, I became particularly close with one of them, Lily. Here's how it all started.
So, Lily has had a pretty major medical history. At the time of the story, she was in the hospital being treated for some type of cancer, I'm not exactly sure to be honest. She had just undergone a pretty major surgery a week or two before and I noticed she wasn't feeling so great mentally and emotionally. I am in Girl Scouts and this was during Girl Scout cookie season so I asked her if she wanted any. I could only pay for one box because, you know, I'm 13 and POOR. She got really excited and I made it happen. When I saw on her Insta that she had gotten the box and that she was so incredibly happy, I couldn't stop smiling. We started to talk occasionally but it was a bit awkward at first so we just stuck to the group chat we were both a part of.
One day, I was in the mood for making friends so I put my Snapchat on my Insta story of the fan account and Lily was the first one who added me. I think we both felt more comfortable actually talking and having conversations on Snap, I don't know why, but we both started to talk a lot more after then. Soon, we started talking over text and things kind of progressed from there. Keep in mind that this was over a couple of months, it didn't happen quite as fast as I make it seem.
We started to kind of commit to ourselves and each other. We realized that we had become closer friends than we anticipated and we wanted to keep it strong. I'm 3 hours ahead of her and so I text her every morning (or try to) to say good morning so that she has a positive message when she wakes up. She usually is up by the time I'm in second period so I try my best to text her back and actually have a conversation with her. It's hard sometimes but we mostly manage to make it work.
By now it's gotten to the point of us making up fake scenarios of us meeting. We now have an inside joke (WOMAN) and so many funny things between us. Whenever I learn about her past experiences, I learn something about myself. Most of all, I become more and more proud of her. I'm not going to go into any more specifics for the sake of her privacy but she's been through a tough time and I'm so glad that I get to be someone to her that helps her. Lily is pretty, and talented and kind. We pick each other up and I'm so thankful to have her in my life. Multiple times I've written a whole dang paragraph explaining to her that she's important and why I love her. Seeing her thankful reaction makes me happy.
One last thing, this is something that I find funny. My best friend is named Lily and my internet best friend is named Lily, (kinda). Hah. Anyway, I'm so thankful to have this person that is 2,000 miles away in my life. She is amazing. Lily, if you read this, BE THE LINDSAY STERLING YOU WERE MEANT TO BE, WOMAN.
