We have all been scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram when a familiar and often unwelcome face pops up in our feeds. You haven't thought about your ex in a minute or maybe you've recently unblocked them or starting following them again.
Seeing their smiling face in a picture or a status tagging someone with the implications of a date can bring up a lot of emotions. Scrolling through their old pictures and wondering why they left up or took down pictures with you can really mess with your head and you can't let that kind of negativity rule your life. Here are some different activities that won't send you on as bad of an emotional rollercoaster.
1. Search for your local cupcake shop instead of their name.
Every. Single. Time. Get lost in the mouth-watering goodness of chocolate and caramel sweets. Not only are those cupcakes sweeter than your ex, but I'm willing to bet they are better looking too. One could argue that this is not the "healthiest" option, but it is certainly better than trying to stalk who has a possibility of being your ex's next potential significant other.
2. Post a cute picture
Get a friend to take a candid of you enjoying your best life, and don't stress to make sure they saw it. Give something better than them to look at.
3. Search everyone from your Kindergarten yearbook.
With the exception that your ex was not in your yearbook of course. How many people are you actually friends with on Facebook that you have known for that long? I don't even think I remember the majority of my kindergarten class. Class reunion anyone?
4. Try to find the weirdest Facebook pages.
Make it a competition with your friends! Is their a hate page for toilet paper? A fandom for pens? Search away and find out!
5. Social media stalk celebrities instead.
We have all come to the conclusion as a society that people stalk social media pages, and it is far less creepy and socially acceptable to follow every post of celebrities. Start following your favorite bands, every member of said band, maybe their manager, and friends. Just to see what exciting lives they live. Sure you don't gain anything from it, but you also don't focus too hard on someone in your life that directly effects you.
6. Take a break from social media.
Read a book (a physical one helps,) hike, go rock climbing, set up a hammock, or jot down your thoughts in a journal. Even if it is just for a day you can feel so much more recharged and ready to take on life without all the drama. There's more to life than obsessing over one person you happened to encounter in your time here.
