Hello, I am that girl walking by that you barely notice on your way to a 9:35 am class. I am the one who sits on freezing bus and plays Pokemon Go or a puzzle game while listening to music. In other words, I am someone who you normally would pay no attention to. Until this past week. On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, our nation decided to appoint the person they would like to see rule this great nation: Mr. Donald Trump. Now I can already sense your outrage. because if you were a democratic or independent-leaning-more democratic voter (like millions of other people) you are dissatisfied with how the election turned out. However, good for you for voting at all, both for the republicans and democrats! Those who voted 3rd party, thank you too. I am very happy you voted.
Many Americans were less than thrilled with the outcome of who is our 45th president, and that’s okay. The rest of us are thrilled, which is also perfectly fine. I took to a famous author's Facebook post to say my support (which is an OPINION mind you) with “The Donald” early-ish in the evening (on Tuesday), preparing for the potential onslaught of negative comments coming my way for disagreeing with the vast majority of the comments below the original post. And sure enough, they started coming within moments of me saying one word against Hillary Clinton. One comment said that the stocks were crashing because of Trump, and how happy was I that that was occurring; another comment was similar in wishing me ill because I said that America was tired of hearing information being sugarcoated day in and day out. My favorite comment though came from someone who promptly told me that I was a “nazi” and that they look forward to the day when trials begin and I would be hanging by a noose. I couldn’t believe that someone who claimed to be so liberal (the profile picture had the “I stand with Her" banner splashed across their picture) could be so utterly heartless towards another human with a different opinion than hers. I am not an uneducated person by any means, I attend one of the best universities in the South. I have grown up with parents who each have different opinions of how government should be run, which is amazing because I can see which I agree with more. I am now an adult and can make my own decisions, I have chosen the candidate whom I believe can run this country seamlessly.
I don’t have to explain myself as to why I support a candidate, however, here are some key points from Trump’s Political Platform that resonate with me.
1. Creating Jobs
Job creation is a big problem here in the states. Let’s face it- it is super hard to find a job. People with experience don’t get hired and neither do the people without experience. It’s a total lose-lose situation. I have faith that Trump can, in fact, create the jobs so many of Americans have been needing for years. He can hopefully create more manufacturing jobs here in the States so that our workers can have jobs instead of outsourcing to places like China to do all of our manufacturing.
2. Restoring Ties to other Nations = a good thing
With Russia having the second most powerful government (the USA is No. 1), it will be a good thing to have them as an ally in the event something catastrophic happens, among other allies.
3. Added Security
Especially Cyber Security. Today we live in a digital age, information is instantaneously at our fingertips. That also means danger is just clicks away. I believe that Trump can increase cyber security in order to make our country free from cyber threats.
4. Our Military Personnel & Veterans
With many of my friends who walked the stage with me during our high school graduation currently enlisted in the military, Donald’s stance on our military hits close to home. In addition, I have several family members currently enlisted/veterans of different branches of our military. Donald Trump wants to make sure that veterans get the benefits they are entitled to for serving this great nation, and if they are no longer on this earth because of said sacrifice, he wants to make sure their spouses and children are granted the benefits that the service member would have received. I believe that is the fair thing to do. Making sure that veterans who are still alive but are trying to recuperate from their time in the military get the help they desperately need, no long lines, no uncooperative people in the VA offices that really don’t give a care in the world, and in the long run prevent suicides because the veterans who will walk into these VA hospitals/clinics will have received treatment for the “whole person”, not just the physical problems which ail him or her.
5. Immigration
Donald Trump wants to put the needs of the people of the United States first, before taking in immigrants. To make sure that the illegal immigrants (please notice I am saying ILLEGAL) do not get the jobs so quickly once they arrive here. Because, did you know that it is illegal for an American to employ someone who is not a citizen of the United States of America? The levels/amounts of immigrants we used to allow into this country should be restored, and this way we can help those coming into our country become naturalized citizens more efficiently and that way they will be entitled to the benefits that you and I have been blessed with all of our lives.
6. Health Care
Now this is where many will either get super angry or happy with me. I am glad he is trying to appeal/remove parts of Obamacare. Before you try and tell me that it’s so wonderful et al., listen for a minute. I have grown up in a home where my mother is a small business owner, which is wonderful, however, when it comes time to purchasing insurance for her and myself… it's worse than getting a tooth pulled without any Novocaine. The fact is that under Obamacare, we are paying for insurance that is quadruple what we paid under the Bush Administration. Not to mention that in the field of health care, many doctors are no longer accepting insurance because of Obamacare. Not to mention if you want alternative health care methods (like Chiropractic for example) those doctors get maybe $20 per adjustment when three or even four years ago they got $40 per adjustment. Payouts for doctors accepting insurances has quite literally gone into the toilet. How is that a good thing for our country?
7. Our Second Amendment Right
It’s been in our Constitution for centuries, just because of a few people who end up getting a gun and terrorizing schools, movie theaters and other public institutions we should take them away from everyone? To put in a couple strict rules with which to acquire a gun, sure. But not take them away from every American because that is our right as citizens of the USA.
Take Home Message
While these just are some of the valuable things Donald Trump wants to accomplish during his four years as president, we all have to remember that in the end, no one is perfect, and running this country is no easy task. We have to remain hopeful and full of faith that Donald Trump will do what is best for us as a country. Riots aren’t a good way to show disdain for a candidate who isn’t even in office yet. In the past, he has done wonderful things for individuals and groups that have helped him along the way. Maybe if we all take deep breaths, calm down and realize that all we can do is trust in this president-elect to do some good for the USA. Need I remind us of when Obama was elected into office? The only difference was, the riots were nowhere close what they are today.
