Almost everyone assumes that transferring schools can be a horrible, lengthy process, but in reality, it can be one of the most important and most beneficial decisions you'll ever make for yourself. Here's a list of things I've experienced in my process, with everything from the best to worst. If you are a student who is considering transferring, I hope you'll find success with these ideas in mind and that you'll be inspired to move forward through your own process:

1. You're Going to Have to Look at Different Colleges All Over Again

Yes, I completely understand that irritated and anxiety-induced feeling that you might have right now. Rather than dwelling on reapplying to different schools, visiting their campuses, and being a part of those exhausting tour groups again, instead think of all of the possibilities these experiences may bring! For example, I hadn't even known about the university I transferred to (SUNY Oneonta) when I was applying as an incoming freshman. Since you already have the college application process under your belt, you'll most likely have a greater understanding of what exactly to search for and to find in a school based on your own personal interests.

2. You're Going to Feel Like a Freshman All Over Again

Of course, migrating to a new environment can be intimidating -- but you have to have the mindset that EVERY new student, whether they're freshmen or transfers, feels the exact same way. Give yourself as much time as you need to adjust, and don't sweat the small stuff. Don't be afraid to ask questions either, a little useful information can go a long way.

3. Attending Your Orientation is Actually a Smart Move

Alright, alright, I know what you're thinking: "Isn't this just for freshman?! You must be joking!" As annoying as it is to drag yourself through another chaotic orientation session, many schools separate information between freshman and transfers so that what you are receiving from presentations can be of the most value to you. Overall, its main purpose is to welcome all new students, so you might as well try your best to stick it out and appreciate their effort in helping you to transition to a new environment.

4. Getting Involved Can Be Super Beneficial

Now that you're at a new school, there's a whole new open door of opportunity for you! College is all about discovering yourself, so take a chance and join some clubs or organizations! If you're still not completely set on one track or if you're still conflicted about which major to study, this can be extremely useful. This is also a great way to build relationships and a sense of community with other transfer students. So, what are you waiting for? Dive in!

5. With An Open Mind, You're Going to Have The Time of Your Life

Since arriving at Oneonta State, I've continued to be the happiest I've ever been. I've already learned so many valuable things about myself that I hadn't noticed before, and I've met some incredible people in just a few short weeks. To new transfer students, I advise you to take in every moment and new experience with open arms. You may not realize it right away, but even the smallest things will end up meaning the most to you in the long run.

Oh, and one more thing. Don't be afraid to break out of your shell a little bit; you never know what kind of wonderful friends you'll make. Who knows, you might even find yourself meeting your long lost twin!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
