The Impact Of The #CanYouHearUsNow Movement

The social movement that proved just how spineless Trump's stereotypes of minority groups really are.

No matter who you may be voting for this upcoming November, one cannot simply go a day without hearing or seeing Trump's name somewhere. More like a scandalous celebrity and less like the Republican Party's Presidential candidate, it seems as though Donald Trump cannot go a week without stirring uproar amongst various minority groups via unnecessary venomous attacks. Trump's latest outrageous claims were directed towards the parents of late U.S. Army captain Humayun Khan, who had died in a 2004 car bombing in the conscious effort to save fellow U.S. soldiers. What provoked Trump's insensitive statements towards the Gold Star family was the Khan's parents' heart-wrenching speech at this past Democratic Convention. Within the speech that provoked Trump's thoughtless words, Humayun Khan's father suggested that Trump has not even read the United States Constitution, and in a powerful and unforgettable moment, took out his own copy of the Constitution and offered to lend it to Trump. Doing what Trump was best, his response(s) simply proved the point in which the Khans had made during their speech.

In a recent interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump's only rebuttal was that Khan's wife "had nothing to say. [...] She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me," Trump said. "But plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet, and it looked like she had nothing to say. A lot of people have said that." Almost as soon as these distinct quotes spoken by Trump were released, Muslim woman banded together using the powerful hashtag #CanYouHearUsNow to prove just how ignorant and sexist Trump's statements really were, and just how much the Muslim women community will never be silenced.

Ubiquitously known Muslim women have come out via Twitter using the hashtag to prove that they have been everything but silent when it comes to sticking up for their culture and gender against the constant discrimination they must face. Significant activists such as Dalia Mogahed shared her TED Talk from this past February proving that, just like Humayun Khan's mother, she is in fact "allowed to speak". Activist Alaa Murabit also spoke out through the #CanYouHearUsNow hashtag by posting a picture of her working with 39th U.S. President Jimmy Carter, stating that she has "spent her time creating solutions with presidents & the like" and proposed that Trump will be nowhere close to being in office. Trump's utterly childish and spineless attacks only further proves that minority groups in general not only have a voice, but based on the Constitution that Trump may not be too familiar with, can freely exercise it as well.

If a U.S. citizen has any love for his/her country, these dishonoring statements regarding a Gold Star family should be sickening. If a U.S. citizen has any love for his/her country, his/her vote will not count towards America's Next Top Dictator. If the GOP has any love for the country and the Constitution that they claim to hold so dear, then these disgraceful statements dishonoring a high-profile military family will be enough to cut off support from the man who made said claims. Trump will forever be in-debt to Humayun Khan and his family, but this country as a whole will also forever have its hands dirty with guilt if it is to let Donald Trump become its leader. The ultimate way to fairly honor and support military families of fallen soldiers and minority groups alike will be to prevent such a revolting man from ever leading this country's future. If Trump supporters have it their way, no one will have the right to speak out against what they disagree with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
