I was blessed to have grown up with two of the most loving and caring individuals, my grandparents. There truly aren't any words to describe how grateful I am for these two people, but I figured I would give it a try.
My grandparents are quite literally my best friends. They support me in (almost) everything I do, and there isn't a time when they aren't there for me. I know when I was younger I used to cry and scream to go back home to my own parents, but being able to grow up around my grandma and grandpa has been a blessing. Living just one apartment above my grandparents means that I can always go visit them without even having to call first. I even joked about making a slide to go into their house maybe once, or a thousand times.
My weekends aren't usually spent out and doing things, but they are spent with my grandparents. More than likely on a Saturday night i'll be eating either Chinese food, pizza, or steak with my grandparents. On Sundays at 4 p.m., i'm right back at their house for some chicken cutlets and pasta. There isn't anything my grandma can't solve with her cooking- and i'll be honest, shes a great cook. I know that I may be a giant pain in the butt because I'll never eat my grandmas' Italian foods, but i'll always have a bowl of pasta with no sauce, just butter, waiting for me when I come to eat.
They are two of the most selfless people I know, and I aspire to become even just half of the person that they are. For the record, my grandma is basically Queen Clarisse Renaldi (the grandma from Princes Diaries), so imagine how unlucky I felt when I was not told that I was the Princess of Genovia at the age of sixteen. Truthfully, that's my only disappointment! The countless Hallmark movies, the numerous re-runs of the A-Team, and the kings in the corner games are what I really cherish the most. The times when my grandpa will pull me into his room to have a "serious talk" just re-assures me that he does have my best interest at heart. Or, even the times when I go to wake him up for a nap and he tries to hug me and not let me go- I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Yes, I constantly realize how fortunate I am to have spent my life with my grandparents so close to me. I know that so many of my friends don't get to have the kind of relationship that I do with their own grandparents, and that I am considered fortunate to have had my entire life molded around my grandma and grandpa. I couldn't imagine where I would be without the two of them, and they really have shaped me into the woman that I am today.
Even though I may be far away at school sometimes, I know that i'll always have a second home in my grandparents house. Needless to say, I love my grandparents with all i've got in me, and i'm thankful for them.
