If You’re Losing Your Mind In Quarantine…

Here's a list of things to do that might make you feel a bit more sane.

1. EXERCISE

Going outside for a walk, a run, or a bike ride is a great way to get some fresh air and get those energies flowing. There are so many at-home workouts going around right now… Chloe Ting's YouTube channel is thriving (I highly recommend the two-week shred), many yoga studios are offering online classes, and you can find so many HIT/total body workouts available for purchase (I also highly recommend Shaun T's Insanity or T25). Plus, who doesn't want to have a little quarantine glow-up? This is the perfect time to work toward the body you've always wanted, or purely just to make healthier habits.

2. Learn/practice a new skill

My family has been doing cook-offs every week of quarantine. It relieves the workload for my mom, and it is really fun! Our family has been cooking things we don't normally eat, or copying our favorite meals from restaurants we (major tear) cannot eat at. I've never cooked in my life before, but learning and practicing has been a great time, and it's definitely a skill that will be useful for the future. We've also been having weekly volleyball matches, which are SO fun and keep us active. Find ways to incorporate your fellow quarantine buddies! Whether its cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, drawing, coding, playing a sport/instrument, or even learning a new language, you have so much time on your hands – get productive with it!

3. Start a lil side hustle

Not very surprisingly, there are endless ways to make some money online. Learn more about social media marketing, apps like Instacart to grocery shop for people, or even websites that will pay you just to take online surveys. Start a blog, create an Etsy account, or sell the clothes you never wear on apps like Poshmark and Depop. If you're trying to find a way to make money during these times, the possibilities are endless my friend. You just have to do the research!

4. De-clutter that shit

Unappealing, I know, but worth it. Go through your photos and delete all those unnecessary screenshots, homework answers, and 300 tries before getting that one good selfie. Go through your emails (oof, this is a big one). Go through your clothes, organize your room. Sure it will suck in the process, but you'll feel so much better afterwards.

5. Find new music or podcasts

I've recently been discovering so much new music on Spotify that I don't know how I went my whole life without listening to some of these artists. Personally, I've never watched podcasts before but I've heard about so many great ones that I definitely want to give them a try soon. There's something out there for everyone, from self-help to conspiracies.

6. Read more

Yeah, I just think we all need to do a little bit more of this…

7. Spend time with family

Do a puzzle! Or a board game. Watch a series with your parents. Do workouts together. Planning activities will keep you from getting so stir-crazy and sick of each other.

8. Call/Facetime people you miss

These are lonely times :( Make sure you're reminding the people in your life that you're still there for them and still thinking of them! We all need a lil extra conversation and support right now. I know talking to my friends at UCLA who live far away from me instantly brings my mood up. Your best friends are only a call or text away!

9. Plan for the future

While things are looking pretty bleak, we do know that eventually, COVID-19 shall pass. Make a game plan for when it does – or even a bucket list! Always wanted to study abroad? Always wanted to start volunteering/working? Always wanted to start a budget for finances? Now is the perfect time!

10. TREAT YOSELF

Give yourself a mani-pedi. Do a face mask or a hair mask. Take a long shower. Lay outside and work on that tan. Have a happy hour (or two… or three…).

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
