Since basically the beginning of time, women have been grouped as the timid sex, the respectful sex, and the sex that remains out of the limelight while we applaud the men for their accomplishments.
Well, not anymore.
This is the year of the badass. This is the year of the girl boss. Actually, this is the year of the boss, because "girl boss" still hints that our sex has any say in the matter.
The fact that women in positions of power, in any form or any field, intimidate men is comical. A female CEO is "intimidating," but a male CEO is normal. No one blinks or bats an eye. If a woman holds a more authoritative position than a man, that man feels threatened, as if his turf has been trespassed on by another dog.
Good. He should be intimidated.
Women have been in the background for far too long. We're beginning to emerge in full-force, unapologetically, just like we should've been doing this entire time.
If you're female, you've probably been told you're intimidating on more than one occasion. Whether that's because you're an athlete, you have resting bitch face, you're attractive, or even the fact that you just turned a man down, men always speak to you as if being intimidating is a bad thing. It isn't. It establishes forcefulness and dominance, which are historically manly traits, and when this happens, men just act as if their whole world is being turned upside-down.
I want to rattle their confidence. I want to hold positions and run for others that demonstrate taking a stand. I want every man to know they can't just walk all over me like they used to or seem to think they can.
The future is female, and women are taking over. If you can't keep up, get out the way and watch us break stereotypes, boundaries, social constructs, and glass ceilings. If women who are powerful and don't bend to your every beckon and call intimidate you, good. We should.
