If 2016 were a teacher

This is what I learned

Every year we learn, and experience, and grow. With all the good and the bad, we evolve. We are constantly changing because we are constantly learning. We learn new things daily. I've looked back at my year and made a list of what I've learned and here it is:

1. Priorities mean everything, devote yourself to the things that really matter.

2. Letting stress build up is the most uncomfortable feeling, deal with problems, don't avoid them.

3. The more genuine people you allow into your world, the more enriched your life can feel.

4. No matter what yesterday was like, today can always be better. Start every day with a little optimism, it's good for the soul.

5.You might be surprised by whose company you can really end up enjoying, you'll never know if you don't try.

6. Hobbies can be fun, but putting practice and effort into them can really pay off.

7. It's not uncool to care, being a caring person is a very admirable quality.

8. Be honest with yourself and you'll realize some things no longer suit their role in your life. Let go of them as gracefully as possible.

9. Cherish all your friends, but also be your own best friend. Sometimes you need some time to yourself.

10. Don't overthink things, you cause yourself unnecessary unhappiness. Easier said than done but really try.

11. Going out of your way to show someone how much you appreciate them can make their day and yours.

12. No matter what you have going on in your on head, always make time to lend an ear to others. Sometimes it's good to get out of your own head, and you never know who really needs it.

13. People are constantly changing and maturing, you can't expect someone to be the same person they were years ago for better or worse.

14. Always try new things, you'll never know what you could end up loving to do.

15. Put out into what you hope to get back into the world, and try not lose faith that one day it'll all balance out.

Cheers to a new year, best wishes to everyone, may you continue to live, learn, and love every day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
