7 Iconic Instagram Accounts That You Must Follow Now

As a member of generation X, living in the twenty-first century, I am constantly on social media.

When I say constantly, I am literally not even joking.

My fingers are always moving and looking for things to grasp my attention. Except, I made a pact with myself to make my scrolling worth wild. I am not on Instagram, Twitter and, yes, even TikTok, to follow only my friends or people I know about. No, I want to find those accounts that make me laugh, cry and want to get up and do something with my life.

As of 2020, I have found many accounts that allow me to do just that. People that make me belly laugh. People that wrote prolific stories I can tie into my own existence. People that cook yummy food and desserts and make me feel like I need to go raid the produce aisle at Whole Food in order to make homemade chimichurri (has not happened yet, but with due time).

I tend to keep a list of these accounts and the people I constantly see on my 'Recently Searched' tab. My list is extensive as I am an Integrated Strategic Communication major with a concentration in Creative Advertisement, specifically Social Media.

To say I'm interested in a BIT of an understatement.

I. Molly Yeh / @mollyyeh

My love with Molly Yeh is somewhat frightening. I hardcore stalk her Instagram, Insta Story, and IGTV probably once a day to see the new content she has put out. Molly is a chef, of Chinese and Jewish descent, living on a sugar-beet farm in Grand Forks, North Dakota with her husband and newborn. Yes. That is correct. She went to school as a percussion major at Julliard, fell in love with her husband, Nick, and moved to work on his family farm in North Dakota, giving up music and New York City. She cooks in their small farmhouse kitchen and posts frequently on her food blog, my name is yeh. Her fame came so rapidly, she also has a show on the Food Network, Girl Meets Farm, where she whips up dishes filled to the brim with marzipan, tahini, and sprinkles. TO DIE FOR.

II. Indy Severe / @indyblue_

@indyblue_www.instagram.com

Another person I simply want to drink iced matcha with and talk about life. India Blue Severe is an influence from Utah. She has become known on social media for her fire, Twitter roasts, her amazing, Instagram captions, and her breathtaking videos of travel from each corner of the world. I have followed Indy from the beginning and truly respect the way she uses all social platforms to engage with her audience and love her fans. In the year, she even started a clothing brand, Lonley Ghost Co, with fellow influencers and great friend Bronson Christensen. Lonely Ghost Co. has taken L.A. streetwear to the next level and continues to break barriers, as she is now a mom to a newborn baby. She is an icon and I hope to meet her one day.

III. Caitlyn Rae / @xc8lyn

Caitlyn Rae is by far, and I quote, one of the funniest influencers on social media to date. I have sat in my dorm room, rocking back and forth at how funny not only her videos on YouTube are, but her Instagram and Twitter clap backs. Literal tears. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Caitlyn Rae is most known for her YouTube channel and hilarious shenanigans. She is also known for wearing full faces of makeup to the beach and in the pool (causal). I found her Instagram when I first got to college and when I was down, that was the content I needed. Something to make me grin and laugh out loud. Whether she is sneaking into Coachella or falling into a pool at Jake Paul's wedding with Sarah Baska, she is always up to no good, in the best way possible.

IV. Mary Ralph Lawson / @maryralph

You want a style vision, you got it. Mary Ralph Lawson is not famous by way of social media, but famous by way of my heart. She is one person whose account I have followed for years. Every post makes me want to drop out of college and move to a beach shack in Malibu. Oh yeah, that's where she lives. She lives with her golden doodle, drinking matcha, and owning every outfit she wears. It could be sweats and she looks like a ten. Calling Austin, Texas home, Mary Ralph, along with her twin sister Lyle, has made a name for themselves through their company, The Social Site. It allows services of social media and public relations to business and companies on the West Coast.

V. Kristen McAtee / @kristenmcatee

Now, a lot of people are aware of who David Dobrik and Vlog Squad is, but my favorite and lesser-known member is Kristen McAtee. This Bay Area native is known for her glasses and wild, head of hair. I fell in love with her page because of her humor and love for making a difference. She, along with her dog Link, is always down for an adventure through the back streets of Studio City, California. If you want a good laugh, check out her page, she is a legend and has an amazing west coast sense of style.

VI. Emma Topp / @emmatopp

I most recently began to follow and watch Emma Topp on social media for one reason and one reason only: she is a college student. I feel like so many people that are current day influencers are living lives that are inaccessible to the average person. Spending large sums of money, driving nice cars, and taking luxurious vacations. Not Emma Topp. She is a college student going to Virginia Tech and struggling through the normal college. I lived vicariously through her while she spent a semester abroad at sea and while she meets other influencers around the globe. As they say, 'we stan Emma'.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
