... to become a better you not a new you.
As we enter the new year, it seems that the gym fills up with everyone trying to look better and become someone new. At the top of that "New Year's Resolutions" list that is forgotten by the middle of March, is to become a "new" person, changing their appearances and looks as a resolution so that the new year will be better than the last. For some, this may work. You are an avid exerciser and have found it to be a breeze. Others, much like myself, are the opposite. We can't seem to stick to the routine, we become discouraged, bash our bodies or just simply forget to do it.
This year however, I suggest a change in that typical list of New Year's resolutions. I propose that we resolve to be better, in a different way. Instead of continuing this pattern of working hard to get that six pack or thigh gap, changing our hair with dye, makeup, faces, let's work our minds. I propose to change the pattern of thinking. I hear of women hoping to snag someone through changing their looks and using plastic surgery, expensive clothing and other tools to make them seem more appealing. In the end, though, is it worth all that it costs, physically and emotionally as well as financially to change your body?
I am not saying don't exercise, because it is good for you. Focus on your happiness, and draw strength from your self esteem. Make working out something that pumps you up and you enjoy, not something to gain a skinny, new you.
So now, I am challenging you to a happiness challenge. A challenge to not make 2015 the year of change and a new you but an improved you. Because honestly, if you aren't happy and striving to become a better person, what is the point of life? Challenge yourself to wake up every morning excited and looking forward to the day. Get out there and live, instead of just sitting and binging on Netflix for the third day in a row. Strive to make the lives of those around you better, and help people in need.
I challenge you to wake up every morning and name something or someone you are thankful for because you never know when that could all go away. Allow yourself that extra minute to snuggle up in the covers and think about the people you love and all of the positive things in your life. I challenge you to face your limits, and know that you can accomplish any goal you set your mind to, because even failures are lessons.
The year to come holds so much potential, but it truly is what you make of it.
