12 Things I'm Thankful For This Year

I'm not a fan of Thanksgiving, but I am a fan of saying what I'm thankful for. I'm thankful for so many things, but I only had so much room here, so here's 12 things I'm incredibly thankful I have in my life.

My Fraternity

Phi Mu Alpha - Sigma Tau Chapter

I've never felt more at home than when I'm with my brothers. I know I can always rely on them, and they'll always have my back. I've met some of my closest friends through Phi Mu Alpha, and I'm so grateful for everything this organization has done for me. I wouldn't trade my fraternity for anything.

My Friends

Phi Mu Alpha - Sigma Tau Chapter

My friends are my family, and although we have falling-outs and petty fights, I love them with my whole heart. Some I've known since I was a toddler, some I've only known a couple months, but I love them all. I know people who I've only been friends with for a short time that I'm closer to than people I've known my whole life. Regardless, I love all of my friends, and I'm so glad they're all in my life.

My Big

Phi Mu Alpha - Sigma Tau Chapter

I've known my big since our freshman year of college, but we've grown so much closer since we became big and little. He's been there for me through my highs and really low lows, and he's stuck with me through it all. I will never be able to explain to him just how much he means to me and how much he's done for me. I love him an incredible amount. Thank you, Daniel Hershman. For everything.

My Band

The Towson University Marching Band is the entire reason I'm in college. I fell in love with the TUMB when I saw them in 2014 and decided right then that I wanted to go to Towson, so I could be in the marching band. Coming to Towson has opened so many doors for me and has helped set me up for a great future. The low brass section is my home away from home, and I'm so thankful to them for welcoming me with open arms.

My Apartment

I am so grateful to have a roof over my head. I started off this semester without a place of my own, and I was sleeping on my friend's couch (thanks Morgan) while I tried to figure out a permanent living situation. Thankfully, I was able to find an apartment. Never again will I take for granted having my own space and a place to lay my head at night.

My Pets

I have two cats, Mona and Jasmin, and they are my entire world. If I'm having a bad day, I can just go lay on the couch with them, and everything is okay. They don't care if I failed an exam or I forgot to do my homework. They just care that I'm warm, and I love them, and sometimes, it's nice to have that simplicity. I love them very, very much, and I'm very thankful to have them in my life.

My Stability

I have a roof over my head, food in my pantry, money in my bank account, a pillow to lay my head on, and friends who have my back when I fall on hard times. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am. I have problems in my life, of course, but there are so many people who don't have food or a place to call home. I am so thankful for the things in my life that are stable and consistent.

My Job

For a long time, I was pulling my hair out over money issues. I had no money, and I was constantly begging my mom to transfer money so I could buy food or gas. Now that I have a job, I'm more financially stable, and I'm not losing my mind every day over whether I should eat or get to campus to get my degree. I am so thankful that I work with such amazing people, and that I finally have a job after going so long without one.

My Audience

Whether or not they're friends of mine, I appreciate everyone who clicks on my articles and reads my work. Writing is what I want to do for the rest of my life, so for so many people to support my work means a lot to me. If no one read my articles, I wouldn't be on the Odyssey for much longer, and I would probably be questioning my validity as a writer even more than I am now.

My Resilience

I have faced a lot of hardships in my life. Through everything that has been thrown my way, I have persevered. It would have been so easy to just buckle and give up, but I stayed strong. I may have had moments of weakness, but I stuck it out and stayed living. I am so incredibly proud of myself for continuing to live even though the difficulties in my life have made me want to do otherwise at times.

My Love

I have been hurt many, many times, but despite all of the pain, I have continued to love deeply and passionately. I have so much love in my heart. In a world full of so much hate and so much pain, holding onto love is an incredible thing. I am so thankful that I have a pure heart still regardless of how much hate I experience.

My Perspective

Think about your perspective. Each and every one of us has experienced entirely different things in our lives. Even the smallest things, combined with everything else we experience, adds up to create an entirely unique perspective. I am so thankful for my unique perspective and that I have the opportunity to share that perspective with other people.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
