As soon as school lets out, most teenagers are excited because of the free time and relaxation that comes with summer vacation. However, as appealing as that sounds, it gets boring. Quick. Unless you’re going on a cruise to the Caribbean or backpacking across Europe, summer will be a snooze fest.

Teens are spending their days sitting on the couch doing nothing. So, here are six tips that can help guarantee an amazing summer for you and your friends.

1. Get a Summer Job

I understand that summer is supposed to be work and stress free, but this can really change your summer. By getting a job, you are able to leave your house and get out more to meet new people. Even get a friend to join you in it too. Besides, who wouldn’t want extra cash in their pockets and a nice tan from laying out by the pool watching kids swim?

2. Go to a sleep-away camp

Most people think they are too old for camp, but that is not true. At camp, you build a sense of independence. You will get the understanding of how to live on your own. Since the majority of high schoolers plan to live on campus for college, this can help them get a head start on what it is like to live independently.

3. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to help out with your community. You may get a little dirty, but at least an impact will be made. By volunteering, you can get a sense of accomplishment knowing that you have done something to change another person’s life. Plus, it will look good on a resume. Studies show that “84% of those responsible for hiring agree that volunteering is a way to help people find work.” I know I wouldn’t pass on that opportunity.

4. Make a Bucket List

Making a Bucket List motivates you to complete what’s on it. It gives a feeling of achievement when you complete the items on it. It also gives you a chance to experience something new that you would not have done on your own. Once you’ve completed all the items on the list, you can always reward yourself with a treat.

5. Play tourist

By playing tourist, you can go out and see parks, museums, and beaches that your city has. You will get to actually explore the city, and discover new things that you may not have known were there. Don’t forget that you get to dress and act like one too. So, get out those maps and disposable cameras and explore.

6. Read

I know many people think reading is tedious, but getting lost in a good book can make the hours pass faster than you expect. Ditch those textbooks and assigned English books, and curl up in your bed or on the beach with some steamy romances or exciting sci-fi books that will make you forget about the outside world.

Try following these tips to help make your boring summer into a summer that you will never forget.
