Even though summer just started, it already seems like it’s over. Summer is a time to take advantage of the weather and relax. However, work does not slow down, nor do internships. And, just like within a blink of an eye you missed your chance to take off and vacation to distant tropical lands. Have no worries, I have a solution if you are unable to squeeze in any travel time.
Weekends are perfect for mini ‘staycations.’ What are staycations, you ask? It varies by an individual’s preference; I practice it by not leaving home for the weekend, lots of pampering, and treating yourself to yummy food.
One of the biggest perks of spending time under the sun and with sand in your toes is the fresh sun-kissed tan. You can still get the same glow at home, but without any damage to your skin. I recommend using a self-tanner. I admit it can be scary applying what seems to be straight orange lotion to your skin; however, if done right you can look like you returned from being in Tahiti for two weeks (if that’s your thing). I recommend exfoliating your legs on arms prior. One amazing higher end self tanner to try is the St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Lotion (8 oz. of product for 42 dollars), a drugstore alternative is Jergens Natural Glow.
You can accentuate your tan with your makeup and nail polish. Golden tone eyeshadow across the lid with a bronze shade in the crease creates the perfect beach goddess look. I recommend the original naked palette (12 eyeshadows for $54)if you want to emphasize your sunkissed (safely without harmful rays) face. A eyeshadow drugstore option is Maybelline nudes palette. To add to it, a light pastel nail polish like Essie’s Fiji or even OPI’s Alpine Snow compliments your skin.
Another perk of vacation, is SLEEP. Treat yourself to good night of sleep, put the phone in a drawer and just ‘forgettta bout it.’ I’m sure your friends much rather you soothe your body than like their Instagram. It’s all about doing what you want, so if your kind of vacation is staying up till the crack of dawn then do it! But you may be tired at work on Monday.
However, you won’t be hungry on Monday after the weekend of food. You can easily bring any cuisine right to your kitchen, it won’t be as good as the real thing, but with time and practice you can make it pretty close. Nothing is like a refreshing guacamole with tortilla chips.
Guacamole:
3 Avocados
¼ Red Onion, finely chopped
¼ Cilantro
1 Juice of one lime
Sprinkle of garlic powder
Salt to taste
Even though Pinterest recipes are intimidating, check it out you can put in exactly what you are in the mood for and you can find recipes with step by step picture instructions. The options are endless, sushi, pizza, whatever you want!
Last, but not least, you need great music. Put on Red, Red, Wine by Ub40, throw back some tortilla chips with big scoops of guacamole, and feel rejuvenated.
