I don't know about the rest of you, so I really can only speak for myself when saying that I probably only wear fifty-percent of the clothes that I have in my closet when I am at school. Whether it is because I like those clothes the best or because I just know what accessories go best with which tops I really couldn't tell you. All I know is that I have way too much clothing going to waste.
This summer I ended up donating three or four hefty bags of stuff that never sees the light and just lives on hangers in the back of my closet. Now, these articles of my wardrobe are in better hands and are probably being sold at Goodwill for less than half of what I bought them for. But see, that's the thing, you can actually benefit from having a minimalistic wardrobe, and you can even sometimes get paid for it.
1. Buffalo Exchange; The reason to be minimalistic is to make some cash.
No, I have never actually been to a Buffalo Exchange however, that really isn't the point. All I know is that this place is somewhere that I need to visit. From what I've heard, Buffalo Exchange is similar to Goodwill in the sense that you can drop off your old clothes and accessories to be sold for a lesser value, however, if you have particular items that Buffalo Exchange is looking for they will pay you for your merchandise. It is no surprise that the amount that you're receiving from this company is going to be far less than the original retail priced you paid, however, you still get paid for emptying out your closet. Sounds awesome, right?
2. Sanity; The reason to be minimalistic is so your clothes aren't overflowing.
My clothes are always overflowing. I quite literally take over two closets in my house filling them up with clothes, shoes, and handbags. Moving into this semester, I knew that I wanted to try to keep my closet limited with choices because at the end of the day I probably only wear 50% of my clothes anyway. Being back at school and having less clothing in my closet makes my life so much easier. I can conveniently find exactly what I am looking for at all times without having to hunt through clothes I will hardly ever wear.
3. Minimalistic, as always, is in.
Staple items and statement pieces have always been a huge contribution to one's wardrobe. However, in order to rock those statements, one has to have simple elements in their closets. If you know me it really is no surprise that my closet includes a majority of black, white, and denim. I have a lot of these styled items in different variations so that I can make the most of my statement pieces- a silk bomber, an elaborate necklace, and colorful heels.
