It’s hard putting effort into your appearance in college. What do you expect when you stay up until 3 a.m. studying, or you missed your alarm clock for your 8 a.m. class? Most of the time, we roll out of bed and look like we were hit by a bus.
I want to share my tips on how to look put-together in college. It means so much more to your professors, when you look like you want to be in his/her class.
Cardigans are key. They’re functional for cooler classrooms, but add sophistication to your sorority, university and club t-shirts. I’m all about layering chunky cardigans over t-shirts.
In fall and winter, you can layer a stripped long sleeve under your sweaters. Let the bottom of your shirt hang out of your sweater. You’ll look so cute, but yet, you didn’t have to put any effort into picking out an outfit.
Sneakers are a huge in this day in age. Fashion icons wear sneakers with dresses, jeans, athletic pants, skirts, basically anything and everything. Converse are great, but so are the new Adidas superstar sneakers. You’ll look more put together than wearing tennis shoes. And again, it’s functional. Sneakers are comfortable to be walking around campus.
Ball caps are my best friend in college. Greasy hair, don’t care!! Messy hair, don’t care!! It saves you time from doing your hair on the busiest mornings. But honestly, there are so many cute, simple outfits to wear ball caps with.
When the weather cools down, scarves are a great way to pull your outfit together. They can be worn with tees, t-shirts, buttons up. It is amazing what one little accessory will do for you and your appearance.
Lastly, I’ve mentioned tees. I am a fan of J. Crew tees. They come in bright colors, pastels, and neutrals. And, the material is so soft. They go on clearance quite often, so it’s not hard to find a good deal. I also love button downs from J. Crew. It just requires no thought getting ready in the morning. It is jeans, birks/sneakers and button down. They come in stripes, gingham, plaid and solid. You can also layer the button downs over a tee!
These five items will help you get dressed in minimal time, looking like a put-together college kid.
