When was the last time you looked in the mirror and were happy and content with everything you saw? Did you see someone who worked hard for what they had and was successful in life? Or did you see someone who worked harder than everyone else and still ended up with the short end of the stick? Was the person looking back at you still wearing yesterday's makeup or are you polished to perfection? No matter who you are or what you do, you will never obtain pure happiness if you don't take a minute to realize your worth!
Every day there are people who make a lot of money and have all of these nice belongings, but they still find themselves searching for more. It is not selfish or conceded to want what is best for you and it is certainly is not selfish to want to find that fulfillment. In a world like today, it is difficult to find that inner strength and love with yourself. People get caught up in the world around them that they soon lose themselves and become disconnected. One thing to keep in mind is that it is OK to love the person you are and are still becoming.
One way to start loving yourself is to recognize your achievements. As humans we crave recognition and validation, so why not treat yourself when you do something positive! Even if it is the slightest accomplishment, you still worked for it and deserve something nice. Eat that whole tub of ice cream if you want to, you worked for it! Achieving a big goal takes time and it isn't reached over night. Stepping stones are necessary, so start recognizing when you progress on to the next one and you might find yourself becoming more content.
Another big downfall to peoples' happiness is that they let others tell them how to live their lives. You aren't here for someone else to live their life through you. Put yourself first sometimes and realize that you have to take actions that bring you contentment and tranquility.
If you're trying to get ahead, don't lose yourself along the way. You are the only person that you have to live with for the rest of your life, so why wouldn't you want to make it an enjoyable experience. Help pick yourself up when you are down and certainly don't make others feel less than what they are. Happiness is a staple that is required to live a truly successful life. Stop hindering yourself and love who you are!
