There are days where we feel stuck in a rut. It's this feeling we have inside our heads, but what is it exactly? A rut is defined as dull and unpromising. We are NOT dull people. Our lives are promising. Sometimes we just forget how much we have to offer to the world. There is nothing wrong with us.

We all reach a point where we feel life turning into a routine that drags on and on. One morning you wake up and think to yourself ‘I do the same thing every day.’ Sometimes that feeling lasts for a day, week, month or longer.

At times, we all need help getting our light back. It's our since of purpose in life that keeps us going. If you feel life you're running circles and not going anywhere, don't lose hope because you will get your sparkle back.

1. Shake up your routine

The same day to day routine can get old. Try changing the order of how you prepare for your day or go about your day. Wake up earlier, exercise in the morning, eat something different for breakfast or any way you want to change things up.

2. Take a mental health day

This one may be hard for those of you who are rule followers and go by the book. Yes, I’m telling you to call in sick and skip class. Take a day just for yourself. Focus on you, and get your mind straight.

3. Take on a project

A fun project can be the perfect way to relieve stress. It can give you purpose, and you’ll be motivated to finish something you are passionate about.

4. Try a new hobby

Sometimes, it’s good to shake things up a bit. If running is your hobby, try taking up dancing or painting.

5. Treat yourself

Go out and get yourself that special something you’ve had your eye on forever. Be selfish for a moment. It is OK to want things for yourself. Yes, money can’t buy happiness, but there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself occasionally.

6. Take a fitness class

Group fitness classes are the perfect opportunities to get fit, meet new people and have fun. You don’t have to be a hardcore, workout enthusiast to take a fitness class.

7. Go for a walk

Step outside and get some fresh air. It will help clear your mind, and you can catch some vitamin D while you’re at it.

8. Get a pet

Having something to take care of and be responsible for can motivate you to get out of bed. Even if you just a get a pet fish.

9. Move furniture around

Sometimes rearranging furniture can make you feel different and new. It can help you see things in a new perspective.

10. Clean out your closet

Nothing beats that feeling of cleaning out your closet and getting rid of old clothes.

11. Deep clean your home

Hardcore cleaning can relieve stress. Turn up the music and get down with your mop.

12. Read a book of your choice

Pick up a book, magazine or just something you want to read. Not a textbook for school or an e-mail from work. Something you want to read.

13. Go see a movie

Get out of the house, and sit in a movie theater. It’s quite relaxing to just sit and watch a movie.

14. Have a get-together

Invite some friends over for game night, movie night or just to hang out. Being around others can lift your spirits.

15. Go home and spend time with family

No one knows you better than your family. If you’re struggling, talk to them. Even if you aren’t close to your family, sometimes just going back home can help you clear your mind.

16. Sign up for volunteer work

Volunteering is a great way to spend your time because you are helping others.

17. Write about it

Sometimes the best way to let everything out is by writing. We can’t always say what we are thinking, and some of us are better at writing how we feel.

18. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone

This is your chance to do something you’d never do. I’m not saying everyone go jump out of an airplane. Just step out of your bubble.

19. Do a social media detox

As much as we love social media, sometimes we all need a day to unplug. One day away from the posts, tweets, snaps and stories can help you focus on life.

20. Set a small goal for each day

Try setting a mini goal for each day. It can be something small as taking five minutes to relax and listen to music.

21. Talk it out

There is nothing wrong with talking about it to someone either. Another person’s perspective can help you see things from a different point of view and give you ideas.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
