Well, it’s official – Business Man Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States of America, and many people are upset and terrified. A lot of people are voicing their distaste for the event, and there are already countdowns on social media to the day he leaves office. It’s going to be a long four years, so here are some things to pass the time:
1. Binge all of your favorite shows on Netflix.
We all know that TV and movies are two of the best ways to escape reality. So, what better way to avoid thinking about who is running this country than to just leave the real world behind and become best friends with Lesley Knopp or solve crimes with Sherlock and Watson.
2. Pick up a hobby.
Most everyone has a hobby at some point in their life, and usually that hobby is used to distract people from the not-so pleasant things in their life. Start gardening or learn how to water ski. Just do anything to help you ignore the fact that you now live in 'Trump-land'.
3. Take a class or 5.
There is a lot to learn out there. You can learn complicated math or take a yoga class. Maybe steer clear of a political science class, because unfortunately, you will probably be talking about President Trump and how he is “making America great again” – and that is what we are trying to avoid.
4. Take lots of naps.
Yes. Just sleep for four years. Sleep is good for the body anyways. You don’t think when you are sleeping. You are dreaming when you sleep. A dream is always better than reality. Plus, who doesn’t like sleep? Personally, I think this is the best option.
5. Go to the gym.
OK, so this isn’t really a way to ignore or forget about politics, but it is certainly a way to deal with it. Just let out all your rage and anger on a punching bag. This is kind of a win-win, because you get to get out all of that pent-up frustration from family gatherings where you can’t talk about politics, and you get a better body out it.
6. Travel.
Yeah, it’s probably best to just leave. Get out while you can. Like, before the wall goes up. Just live somewhere else for a few years. Gain some culture, learn a new language, and try new foods. It can't be that hard to move to another country, right?
7. Get involved!
OK, so if you haven’t caught on yet, everything up until now has been complete satire. I may not be a fan of our new president, but I am definitely not going to run or hide form the fact that this is who we're stuck with. The only way to deal with this adjustment is to get involved. Find the issues that are important to you, and fight for change where you see the need.
Nothing is going to get better unless people take action. If you want to preserve marriage equality, then fight to keep the laws in place. You can’t just sit back and complain that Trump is going to ruin America if you aren’t willing to fight to make it a better place.
So, join an organization or sign a petition. But remember, in doing anything, do it with love and acceptance in your heart.
