After spring break has come and gone, classes start up again. Having this much needed week off from anything school related reminds us of why it's oh so sweet to not have any homework or tests to study for. Spring break gives us a taste of what summer break is teasing us with!
It's easy to tune out for the last six weeks or so in order to anticipate summer break's arrival, but don't be one of those people! Trying to finish the remaining weeks left in the semester as strong as you possibly can is what will really boost your GPA and keep your grades in your classes sitting pretty. So in order to finish the rest of the semester without wanting to drop out, here are some tips to help keep you motivated.
1. Set some goals.
By creating goals for yourself for the rest of the semester, you set up miniature checkpoints that will motivate you to keep pushing forward! Once you achieve the next goal you set for yourself, you'll feel accomplished and ready to work hard to reach the next one! Maybe you have an upcoming test that you want to (or have to) get a good score on, a paper you have to finish, or a certain distance you want to reach when you go running.
Putting these goals in order by when you want to achieve the final result will keep you motivated to go on to the next one. It's basically like a to-do list, but you feel better after completing them because they take up a lot of time and effort.
2. Plan ahead.
By taking a calendar and writing down each and every assignment, test, and paper you have to do, accomplishing them becomes a lot easier. Being able to physically see what you have to do by certain dates allows you to better plan your time so that you can finish everything without cramming the very last minute.
Doing this can save so much stress that would never allow you to finish things to the best of your ability. Planning ahead is essential in order to not totally lose your mind as finals start creeping up. For those who have anxiety or are visual thinkers, planning your life on something you can see and interpret saves you from the chaos that rules your mind.
3. Start exercising. Seriously.
You would be amazed by how accomplished and motivated you'll feel after exercising. Anything goes, whether it's speed walking around your subdivision, taking classes at the YMCA, or playing basketball in your driveway. Any type of exercise that is sustained for thirty minutes promotes proper blood flow and a lot of oxygen intake. You'll feel more alert, energized, and accomplished by getting your butt off the couch cushions. Therefore, you'll feel more motivated to jump start projects.
4. Take some time to unwind.
Jumping back in full gear with classes and working can really take a toll on a person's mental health. More often than not, over-stimulation and burnout can promote procrastination because you're too overwhelmed to finish projects until they're literally due the next day.
In order to prevent a burnout, taking some much needed time to unwind by yourself can re-invigorate your motivation and mental health. Take a day for just yourself to listen to music, binge watch Netflix, or sleep. We all know we'd love more sleep. Treating yourself to mental breaks will help you ease your mind so it isn't so cluttered with due dates and projects.
5. Surround yourself with a support team.
Surround yourself with people who care about you and will help lift you up! Also, get rid of those you drag you down. Spending time and seeking comfort from those who will motivate you and help you reach your goals will seriously give you a boost to finish the rest of the semester strong. When you feel down on yourself and seem unwilling and unmotivated to finish things, your support team will push you to try again and stay strong. If nothing else keeps you going, that one person can change your world. Keep pushing forward!
