Yep, that song can certainly define those melancholy, brutal, harsh, frustrating, and discouraging moments that come and go in our lives. Face it, we can’t be happy all the time. Maybe your karma is out of balance. Maybe you didn’t work hard enough or smart enough. Maybe you're procrastinated big time, intentionally or unintentionally. Maybe you’ve had bad luck for a while what with that dark, ominous cloud hanging over your head. Maybe you just screwed up. Yeah, all those 'maybes' can influence how your week, or even you future, will turn out to look like.
You may feel like the odds are not in your favor and that possibly, the Fates aren’t weaving your destiny exactly as you’d hoped. You’re overwhelmed with so many problems that are even further complicated by unfavorable circumstances. Ok, you may reach to the point where some things are just hanging by a thread.
Not to go totally Maleficent with all the pessimism, but eventually we all reach a point where we have to face the negativities that we may inadvertently conjure up.
The important thing to realize is that you must come to terms with your failures and predicaments. The next important thing is to learn from them. Sometimes it may be hard to accept the truth, which is why we tend to avoid it by distracting ourselves with other things to keep us from dwelling upon it.
Thus, here are some ways we can all improve on various aspects of life that keep tumbling down our path and down memory lane:
Physically:
If you’re not satisfied with you health goals, then do something about it. We all complain about how unlikely and unattainable it is to get the perfect body every now and then. If you feel like you are being negatively impacted in your physical nature, then get yourself up from that couch and be active. Whether it’s getting involved in sports, joining a fitness program, attending the next fun Zumba class, staying active will help maintain your state of being physically as well as mentally. Don’t be down in the dumps about not being or looking perfect. Working out is not only a good stress reliever or method of getting in shape. It contributes to the blast of endorphins. It will eventually help you become more optimistic. It’s how you feel in the end versus how you’re trying to look that matters more. What I’m saying is that don’t aim for the ‘ideal image’ but rather how much you want to get out of being active and keep working at it.
Mentally:
Are you having fluctuating mood swings? Feeling like you really hit rock bottom? Well then, take the time once in a while to meditate. Yes, embody the Buddha as best you can to melt away the anxiety and shed the distress. Meditation has been proven to increase mental awareness and contribute to better health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. Take 15 minutes to half an hour everyday or every other day to be at peace and become one with your inner-self (yeah, I’m not kidding).
Academically:
Swamped with work, assignments, and tests? PRIORTIZE. It’s the little things and the simple steps we take that matter and can ultimately (help) make a difference in the long run. Write down information in your planner so that your mind doesn’t overload on it. Take the time each day to memorize and comprehend certain parts of a chapter from the subject that you’re studying. Reading bits of information everyday can help you become prepared for the next quiz or exam. That way you can accumulate the information efficiently rather than cramming it all into your head. Join a study group on the weekends or quiz yourself every now and then. Time management, organization, and responsibility is key.
Ok so you might not feel like turning the tables immediately, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. You’ve come a long way, and your still running in the marathon. Don’t give up just because you had a bad day and hit a low.
