Guys and girls. Guys don't take on more weight then you can handle, it's not a good workout for you plus you just look silly. Girls don't be afraid to go over to the weights side of your gym.
Here in Knox the gym for students, the Trecs, is a great facility I have had the privilege of working with for the past two years. I have noticed and seen a lot. Overall girls, plain and simple, try and live by what I'm about to say; more weight and less reps plus, challenging yourself and doing some cardio and you will have the body you want in no time! Besides lifting weights, the Trecs and other gyms offer group fitness classes like what I teach: Zumba, cycling, killer core, interval training, cardio circuit and more! Guys and girls do not be intimidated by these classes! They are a great structure for beginners to advanced members of the workout world. For instance my Zumba class can burn between 500-1000 calories, depending on how hard you work! There you go, there is your cardio in a 45 or 1 hour class then you can head off to lift weights.
Another thing to know, weights do not make you bulk and look like a man. By doing weight training the proper way you can build lean muscle while burning the fat around it therefore making your body have defined muscle all over. But don't forget you have to and I mean have to eat right! It's not 90 percent gym and 10 percent food. It's 100% gym and 100% nutritious food for your body. Try and use this semester to take your friends to the Trecs or your apt. gym or well known gym and workout together and be a support system. We all know good behavior is contagious as well as bad. You decide what your year will be like!
Guys you may think group fitness classes are a joke but I challenge you to go take a R.I.P.P.E.D class and after you are drenched and sweat then you'll know group fitness classes are no joke! You'll learn form and a lot of great exercises for when you try and work out on your own. Plus where else are you going to meet all the fit girls on campus? Fitness is a way of life and no one should be embarrassed or feel like it's not a safe zone.
Be welcoming to people in the gym. If you see someone guy or girl struggling, help them out. Everyone is in there for something because no one is perfect and we all strive for perfection. Sweat, work hard and stay driven and no matter what you do, don't be comfortable. Stay comfortable, you'll look comfortable. Keep up the confidence, challenge yourself and we will all reach our goals as one.
Also, no matter what you do, don't take selfies at the gym like the Khardashians. Just dont.
