How A Meme Understood Me Like No Other

Who knew that a meme would be able to describe all my feelings and emotions about being a college student in today's world.

College. Who knew a simple word could bring about so much excitement and anxiety at the same time. One moment you are excited about your weekend plans and the next you remember you have a project due in 2 days. At the beginning of the semester you buy a planner to keep you organized but by October you realize the syllabus is moving much faster than you anticipated and all of sudden you are overwhelmed with life. Do not think you are the only one who feels this way because I did up until I saw a meme that perfectly described my exact feelings as a college student in 2016. Who knew that the face of Mindy Kaling was one I could find comfort in as it was recognizable as almost myself on Sunday night trying to do all the homework I procrastinated, or Thursday night when I am surprised I made it through the week. It was almost as if Mindy understood me like no other and her face showed she knew the struggles of balancing life as a college student.

What is free time you may ask? There is no such thing, no matter how hard I try to plan it in my schedule. At times I feel like a professional juggler and since I am an overachiever I tend to add too many items to juggle around. Yes, school is the top priority on the list and so is achieving the 4.0 GPA (or slightly around there) but let's not forget we are young adults and we have other hats to wear in our lives. Trying to have a social life proves to be tough at times when you have an assignment or test to study for every week but still want to go out and have some fun. When you add a job or internship to the mix you can begin to feel the stress starting to form. You may even ask yourself "Is it worth it"? but the answer is yes, it is because you need the extra money for that cute outfit just as much as you need that intern experience on your resume.

I also believe that while in college you either lose weight or gain it, but trying to stay fit is a while different story. It is easier to grab fast food after class than to meal prep or come back and cook something healthy. Going to the gym can also prove to be difficult when you try to make at least an hour of exercise a day a priority on top of your already busy schedule. When I actually do get a chance to workout three times a week I feel like i am on top of the world but also like I forgot to do something since I had that much extra time. While maintaing a fit lifestyle and keeping up on beauty and self care can be stressful it is important to not let yourself go because your future self will thank you. From writing a paper, to planning out a cute date with your boyfriend, and making it in time for your yoga class, it is obvious that college students are pros at balancing life and somehow making it all work out in the end. No we are not perfect, but we sure have learned a thing or two about time management and prioritizing. While our posts may show the fun times we have, do not judge us because we are not showing you the weekly all-nighters we do, or the moments we are over stressed. We all have 24 hours in the day and it is up to us to use it to its full potential. When you start to feel stressed on Tuesday night, just look at the meme of Mindy's face and realize you are not the only one feeling this way and when we graduate this will be something we will laugh about.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
