You never thought you would see the day, did you? All of the sudden you don’t feel the urge to look through old messages to remember the good times. You can delete all those text messages from the past year like it’s nothing. You can freely delete all the pictures you forced him to take with you even though he hated every minute of it. You can throw away that stuffed animal he won you at a carnival that’s been in your room taking up space. You can throw out his old t-shirts you loved to sleep in just because they smelt like him. You can stop judging every guy you go on a date with by the fact that they aren’t “him”. You can re-download Tinder (not recommended.) You can see him around town and rather than thinking “wow I miss him” you think “glad I dodged that bullet.” You can see pictures of him and his new girlfriend and not care even the slightest bit. Everything about him becomes a distant memory, and you realize that he was such a small portion of your life in the big picture of things. You are completely and utterly invincible.
Nothing in your life will ever feel more riveting than that moment you know you are over your ex. You no longer have that heavy weight on your shoulders or that little voice in the back of your head that keeps reminding you about him. All of the worry and stress about wanting him back is gone and you are free to live life exactly how you want with nothing to hold you back. It feels like you are untouchable, like nothing can ever hurt you again. You become more open to trying new things, from sushi to skydiving. You become more of an upbeat, bubbly person than you were before. (I guarantee your friends and family will thank you for that.) The best part is that you can take it as a learning experience so you know the next time a guy comes into your life, how you should be treated.
Don’t get me wrong, of course, this is not going to happen right away (a girl can dream though.) Like all good things, getting over heartbreak takes time. How much time? Well, that can depend on a lot of different factors: how long you dated, what the relationship was like, how easily you get over people, and the kind of support you receive from friends and family. Apparently, it takes about half the time your relationship lasted to get over them, but honestly that just sounds like a load of garbage. Especially if this is your first heartbreak, the first time is always the hardest to recover from. No matter if it’s your first heartbreak or your twentieth, it can take a while to get over it. But that moment you realize you are completely over them, damn it feels so good.
