With Easter closing in on us, it's funny to think about how each person's traditions and attitudes surrounding the holiday has shifted over time. We no longer believe in a life-sized magical rabbit that lays eggs, but we do appreciate and value our time spent with friends and family. We aren't necessarily as excited over easter baskets as we are about what kind of champagne we're going to put in our mimosas. As the holiday approaches on Sunday, we take a look at how Easter changes as you get older.
0 - 3 Years Old
You're a baby. Like an itty bitty baby. You probably have no idea what was going on at this point in your life much less what the heck Easter was. You were probably forced to wear some type of cheesy onesie that said 'My first Easter' or a tiny bunny outfit that would only serve to emotionally scar you for the rest of your life. While you may not remember much about this part of your life, you can rest easy knowing you were probably the center of attention. Spit-up and all.
4 Years Old - 9 Years Old
Congrats! You aren't a baby anymore. The Easters between the ages of 4 and 9 are the best because you get the full experience. Decorating eggs? You're stoked about it. The Easter Bunny? You can't wait for your chance meet him. AND THE CANDY. So. much. candy. Unfortunately you're probably still gong to be stuck wearing a dumb get-up which may or may not include a frilly easter dress, a clip-on tie, outrageous bows, along with other things. You're no longer the center of attention because you're always wandering off and getting your hands into things you probably shouldn't be.
10 Years Old - 15 Years Old
At this point your love for Easter has worn thin. You go on strike to avoid wearing the horrible outfits that your mom picks out for you every year and instead decide to go 'Easter casual'. Decorating eggs is still kinda cool, but then again so is pelting them at your little sister. On Easter you band together with the other younger members of your family and talk about how weird Aunt Helen is. All the candy is still pretty awesome, but you're also excited to stuff your fat face full of deviled eggs and ham.
16 Years Old - 20 Years Old
The years of perpetual awkwardness. During these Easters your family decides that it's totally fine to ask you extremely personal questions in front of everyone. “Do you have a boyfriend yet Casey?…No?…Well why not? Do you think if you got braces that would help?" or “What colleges are you looking at?…Well I hear they have a very high GPA requirement…Maybe you should look into trade school." Thanks Aunt Helen.
21 Years Old - 26 Years Old
It's funny how once you are able to legally drink Easters get a whole lot simpler. Decorating eggs becomes a newly rediscovered passion (thank you Barefoot wine and Pinterest). You decide you may even try to cook something while sipping on a mimosa or two. You aren't really sure if you're drinking because it's Easter…or if it's because all of your cousins and friends are getting engaged and having kids. I mean who needs kids when you have your dog… right?
26 Years Old - 35 Years Old
You have kids, a husband and maybe some cats, which is basically the same thing. You try to give your kids the whole 'Easter Package'. You read them stories about the Easter Bunny, you buy them egg decorating kits, you might even dress them up in ridiculous outfits because it amuses the hell out of you. You've upgraded from Barefoot Wine to the good stuff--- coffee (because god knows you need it). It helps to fuel your fire long enough for you to hide the Easter eggs in the yard, cook a perfectly glazed ham, and have the in-laws over to visit.
