Like many others, this November will be the first time I can vote for a presidential election. When I realized that I could vote this year (even in the primaries!) I was beyond excited and I made it my mission to be an informed voter. I promised myself that I was not going to show up to the polls and vote based on the party I mainly identify with or who said the more newsworthy things on the campaign trail, I was going to vote based on who I agreed with the most and who I truly believed would make this country a better place to live. Donald Trump took that away from me and so many other voters. I am extremly liberal when it comes to social issues but economically I am moderate and so I am one of those "undecided" or "swing" voters that campaigns always try so hard to win over. But the truth is it does not matter to me what Donald Trump's plan for the country is. What his plan for reducing national debt is or for restoring jobs because I can not trust him with the future of America.
The United States of America is not reality television and while he already took away my right to watch a presidential campaign and hear the candidates thought on issues instead of how they believe their money gives them the right to sexually harass women, in my mind he does not get to stay on the island because he said the most shocking thing in this weeks episode. This is a country, running it requires professionalism that he has proved time and time again that he does not have. His remarks about being able to grab women by the you know where are just the last straw in a campaign that should have crumbled months ago.
I wanted to follow a presidential campaign, i wanted to weigh my options based on whose foreign policy I agreed with and whose unemployment solution I thought would be best but instead I have had to listen to two grown adults bickering on national television and really all I have learned about either candidate is that Hilary deleted emails and Trump was a despicable person before he started his campaign, we're just paying attention to it now. This election season has been disgusting to watch, I have watched time and time again as a man cut off a woman to give his opinions on the field he has spent about a year in and she has spent her life in. I have watched as a man gets forgiven for saying one terrible thing after another and a woman gets punished for the fact that her husband cheated on her.
This election season has drained me of every ounce of excitment I had for being able able to vote and has just left me wanting it to be over. Donald Trump may have made it this far but I truly hope that the American people have enough respect for themselves and the future of this country to not let him go any closer to the White House than he already is. I would like to end this by saying that while Donald Trump may have ruined this election for me and many others it is still very important that everyone does go out and vote this November because not voting is a vote for Trump.
