Halloween 2015, or "Hallo-week", as most people reading this article probably recognize it as, came and went. I personally love Halloween. I love the monsters, costumes, candy, and all the festivities that come with this holiday. However, I've noticed a common trend: for girls, a Halloween costume can make or break your Halloween experience. If you're a girl reading this, you're probably thinking back to these past few days, stressing out over whether your outfit was funny and cute enough, with just the right amount of "slutty."
I'm not here to talk about all the things wrong with this reality for young women, especially during college; however, I do find it very interesting to hear people's honest opinions.
This haunted Halloween season, I went around getting anonymous quotes from boys and girls about what they honestly thought about the "slutty Halloween costume" culture.
Here's some food for thought as people responded to the question, "What do you think of 'slutty' Halloween costumes?"
Girl: "I personally don't get it, because you could be slutty every other day of the year. You're just perpetuating the fact that you don't have a good personality. Why be hot when you could be funny?"
Boy: "Very Nice." (Borat Voice)
Girl: "I personally would never choose doing a slutty costume over a funny one, because no one is going to think you're cool. People just respect you more in a funny costume."
Boy: "I like an even split. 50/50 between slutty and funny."
Girl: "I feel more confident in a more slutty costume. I don't feel confident in a funny costume."
Boy: "It shouldn't be what you base your costume off of. It's common, a little too common."
Girl: "I think it's fun - if you want to show off your curves, you can."
Boy: "I think they are great, because they allow the opportunity for a girl to get into character and feel sexy."
Girl: "I think it's fun if you're trying to hook up with someone."
Boy: "Do you boo boo. But you see the girls with issues on Halloween."
Let those words sink in. I hope everyone had a happy Halloween.
Until next year:
