How to Get Your Homework Done in 5 Simple Steps

Homework can take extensive amounts of time if you are not using smart strategies to use that time efficiently.

Step 1:

The first thing I do when I am stressed about homework is to get something to drink or a snack. It helps you feel less stressed and gives you something to look forward to. For example, you can set a goal, once you read 5 pages of your 60 page assignment, you can have a couple m&ms.

Step 2:

I like to get in a comfy spot in my room and cozy up with a blanket to do my homework. It calms my mind down and I am not distracted by other things. Sitting at a desk can get boring, and make you less likely to get things done efficiently. I like to sit in my bed with my blanket so I am comfortable and can focus easily.

Step 3:

Set your phone aside!!! Putting your phone on do not disturb can turn a 4 hour assignment into 1 hour without the distractions of social media and constantly checking your phone. You can also use that as a goal, you can check social media once you get a half hour of work done, but if you can avoid your phone through all of the work, you will get it done much quicker, and you will feel very good about yourself.

Step 4:

Make a to-do list of everything you have to do. This is one of my favorite things to do because although there might be a lot on the list, it helps you organize what needs to be done and when it is due. You will also feel amazing once you check these things off. I use this a lot when I have a lot to do and begin to get stressed out, it calms me down and sometimes makes me realize it is not as bad as I thought. From there you can set up a plan of what you want to get done first. I would suggest starting with the hardest thing because you will get it out of the way and feel much better once it is done.

Step 5:

When reading, I like to use different colored highlighters that keep me focused and makes it a little more fun. I also mix up the sticky notes I use to make it more colorful. I try not to listen to music when I am doing homework because it distracts me, but if music helps you focus, then you should listen to it, but not too loud, as it will take away from what you are working on.

I think the most important thing to do when you are trying to get homework done is to find a quiet place to do it without all the distractions. By getting your drink and snack before hand, it will prevent you from using that as an excuse to get up and will keep you focused on your homework for longer. Setting goals and a to-do list gives you gratification once you are finished them and will help you feel good about yourself, and makes homework a little less painful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
