Graduation is quite an exciting time, hell, sometimes it can even be scary. Your elders want to know exactly what you want to do the second you leave your hometown. "What's your major?" "What kind of job are you looking at pursing?" "How are you paying for college?"

The idea of freedom is liberating, you won't be stuck in the same small town, listening to the same gossip you've heard about 20 times. College will be an exciting time, new faces, new classes, and new experiences. But there will be some things you'll miss about your hometown.

1. The tight-knit community

The gossip is annoying, you don't want to hear that your dentist is divorcing your teacher because he had an affair with the secretary at the school; you don't care. Despite the nosiness of your neighbors, when a crisis happens in the community everyone bands together to help those in need. Fundraisers are thrown, meals are made, and love is given.

2. Friday night lights

Friday's are already considered the best day of the week, but adding a football game makes it even better. Everyone comes out to support the football team. Standing in the student section is probably one of your favorite memories from high school. Dressing up according to the theme and screaming the chants until your voice is shot will be something you won't forget.

3. Your best friends

You've grown up with the same people since kindergarten, you probably know everyone in your school. With that being said, you've had your best friend since elementary school. You reminisce the times you spent walking around town or swimming at the pool. You're probably going your separate ways for college or you have to leave them behind; you're going to miss the late nights spent laughing and the deep talks about life.

4. The teachers

There's something about living in a small town that makes the teachers special. They probably already know who you are before you even step foot in the classroom. You form a special bond with your teachers when you have about 15 people in your class. By the time you leave high school, even if you don't want to admit it, you're going to miss the times you had in the classroom.

5. Your family

You can't believe that in a few months you'll be on your own, leaving your family is an overwhelming thought. You won't have mom's cooking, dad's advice, and your sibling's jokes. Even when they get on your nerves, you're going to miss hanging out with your parents and your siblings.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
